Clicking on Threads and Ad Popping Up Instead

I don't get it. I'm on Chrome, Windows 11 and use an adblocker. I'm not getting any of the popups, either on DISboards or any other forum I visit.

I don't seem to have the issue either. I can't read the site on mobile as it is nearly unusable IMO.

Are you on mobile or a computer? I don't think it is intentional, but the bulk of ads just increases the odds of something like this happening. I turned off ad blocker and there were at least a dozen ads of some kind on this page. I understand that ads help pay the bills, but for every additional ad element, it is just another chance of a rogue ad. Sadly, this and many other websites are almost unusable without some form of adblock.

Can you try switching to the "Wide" template and let me know? You can switch the template at the bottom left.

I was experiencing a lot of ads this morning (Chrome) but, switching to 'wide' template seems to have fixed the problem.

Using on safari on my phone and tons of ads and freezing. The pop ups have started again and I have not had an issue on disboards for years with those. One pretends it is scanning my phone for viruses and the other I have seen is spectrum. I have pop ups blocked in my settings which is really frustrating. I can deal with all the freezing and it sending me to ads when I know I didn’t touch them but those pop ups are flashing me back to when they made the boards unusable. Luckily it hasn’t gotten that bad yet. Idk if I can do anything to stop it since I don’t see a widescreen option other than turning my phone sideways which does not seem to help.

Seems like the issue has gotten much worse lately. It's been happening to me for months, but more often now. I tried wide same issue on a desktop. Ive never had it happen on my phone until today. Also last 3 days the site freezes constantly on my phone.

Chill with attitude. Read the previous posts that I've answered numerous times. This is not something I am in control of and it’s a rogue Google ad. The Wide template is my process of elimination.

I didn't see an attitude at all, just a genuine inquiry.

FYI - I am set to wide and having the issue. I am on a laptop.

So, I'm here... but my IT guy messed with my computer for a couple hours and found no issues with my computer, we never replicated this on any other site. Pops up ads repeatedly when I hit Like and sometimes while simply responding with a comment. My IT guy told me he believes the site is compromised and said to stay off it for a while and wait for the disboards IT people to fix it. Has anyone seen any indication disboards is addressing this?

P.S. I'm on wide screen, Chrome, 27" monitor. My professional IT guy (not some part timer at Best Buy lol) said it's not the screen width.

If I'm understanding right, it doesn't have to do with your actual screen width. I think there are "preset layouts" (don't know what else to call them) on the website and the "wide view" is just what Corey uses as the "test bed"/stripped down layout.

That's just a theory though.

Editing, get an ad.

My main site are AOL (yeah, I'm that one person), DVC, Walmart, BJs,Spotify, and few others. Disboards is the only one this is happening on.

Do you have an adblocker? It appears, those of us who do don't have an issue with this.

This site is becoming unusable and I've been here forever. I have ad blockers using Safari. I don't bother to read it nearly as much because I'm alway fighting ads. I don't see any "wide view" option at the bottom left.

I have no idea if my laptop is in wide mode or not. Could someone please post a picture of where this "wide" button is. Yeah, I'm hopeless.

By the way, just trying to read this thread and type a response, I must have gotten 8 ads.

On chrome at the very bottom of the page is the word "default." I clicked on that and was able to choose "wide" among the four options that were brought up. Hope this helps.

Well, since I changed to wide, no issues. Been on and off Disboards over the last hour, no ads.

I've been having same issue. Keeps giving me Bowling Green State University every time. I'm using Chrome on my laptop. I did just switch to "wide" and we'll see what happens!
