CLIA Announces Voluntary Suspension of Cruise Operations from U.S. Ports Until September 15

If you count the cruise where I said "yeah, that one works, I'll book that tomorrow morning" which I then found canceled when I woke up, then that puts me at 5... that makes me Gold, lol.

3 - Alaska: 1 NCL, 1 Princess, 1 Royal (worked really hard to make Alaska work this year)
1 - 4 Night Pacific Coastal: DCL
1 - 4 Night Halloween Bahamian: DCL (9/14 sail date. Just my luck)...

Scrambling to rebook everything over and over, but currently have booked:
1 - 4 Night Merrytime Bahamian: DCL
1 - 5 Night Western Caribbean: DCL
1 - 13 Night EBTA: DCL
1 - 7 Night Alaska: RCL

If this keeps up, we'll be part of the Platinum "Canceled-way" Cay club before ever making the real Platinum Club. Ha ha. I picked the absolute worst time to become addicted to cruising.
Nothing wrong with having a DCL addiction! You should definnitely send your TA a Christmas card this year!

If you want to contribute to a discussion about the CLIA policy, this is the place. If you'd rather discuss/argue about COVID-19, wearing masks, etc. there are threads on the Community Board and on many, many other sites - but this thread is not the place.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

Not happy with this at all. I know they are trying to be cautious, but whats sucks for me is I have to plan at least a year in advance. Getting screwed out of my vacation is no good for my mental health.

Well, we're now officially rebooked. I thought I had to wait until Monday to call based on my email but I called to ask a question and the phone CM said I could book now and apply the FCC later, so that's what we did since my Monday is already going to be nuts enough with the Disney world park reservation system opening up.

I didn't want to pull the kiddos out of school, or sail during cold & flu season, so that left next summer. Never booked this far ahead and most likely won't be granted my request off work (won't be able to request time off until much closer in time), but I bought the Disney insurance so at a minimum I'll get 75% FCC back if I can't sail. This is definitely a weird feeling for me to have over a year for my cruise--used to booking just a couple months ahead so the wait is going to be torture!

On the bright side, looks like most of the attractions at the parks will be open, so I'm excited about that!

Disney is a member, so I assume a DCL announcement is forthcoming:

https://cruising.org/news-and-resea...suspension-of-cruise-operations-from-us-ports
WASHINGTON, DC (19 June 2020)—Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) issued the following statement today to announce that the association’s ocean-going cruise line members will voluntarily extend the suspension of cruise operations from U.S. ports until 15 September 2020.

“Due to the ongoing situation within the U.S. related to COVID-19, CLIA member cruise lines have decided to voluntarily extend the period of suspended passenger operations. The current No Sail Order issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will expire on 24 July, and although we had hoped that cruise activity could resume as soon as possible after that date, it is increasingly clear that more time will be needed to resolve barriers to resumption in the United States.

“Although we are confident that future cruises will be healthy and safe, and will fully reflect the latest protective measures, we also feel that it is appropriate to err on the side of caution to help ensure the best interests of our passengers and crewmembers. We have therefore decided to further extend our suspension of operations from U.S. ports until 15 September. The additional time will also allow us to consult with the CDC on measures that will be appropriate for the eventual resumption of cruise operations.

“This voluntary suspension applies to all CLIA members to which the No Sail Order applied (vessels with capacity to carry 250 persons or more). CLIA member cruise lines will continually evaluate the evolving situation and make a determination as to whether a further extension is necessary.”

Apparently, some of the cruise lines have already submitted their plans to reopen after the no sail order being set to expire on July 24th, but the CDC has not publicly commented on any of those individual plans. The rumor is that the major US cruise lines, decided to work more directly together, in unison, and through the CLIA to make the announcement yesterday in an effort to get feedback/recommendations from the CDC.

My personal take is that CLIA has made a preemptive move prior to a formal announcement from the CDC on post July 24th sailings. The CDC can impound every ship that violates the no sail order and puts them in a complete and commanding position. CLIA, and all of the cruise line partners, has now publicly declared that they need the CDC to make their recommendations and not be silent any longer.

We cruised on the Dream in Jan 19. We opted to do the placeholder while on the cruise.

It will expire in Jan 21. Has Disney extended placeholders due to Covid-19?

We are looking at a Dec or Jan Cruise, so it probably wouldn't be an issue anyway.

Thanks
We're still optimistic about the January 2021 cruise.
I too have a placeholder from Jan of 2019 that I am using January of 2021. I have all the gift cards combined into $1000 units and will PIF about October with those. I thought we could sail if the vaccine was here but that whole red/green thing and 28 day....(if you read it you know) and the 14 quarantine for new workers on the ship. Yeks. Anyway even if I can get the vaccine I’m thinking with Cold and flu season,... well it’s just not likely to happen. I think Our family Christmas is out this year too. I’m so glad I got a cruise in this past January! I’m thinking I’m going to ride this out, it could be worse. We could have a volcano that covers ash all over and kills the plants. And I can stay positive because I see an end to the pandemic(though current spikes in totals are not helping my positive thoughts)
As a matter fact I think I have it really good. So many people are unemployed, some are missing family members now. I’m Going to dig through my pantry and give some of our non-perishables away and give more money to the local pantry. I’m thinking about all those workers on the ship that give their money back home to their families. Such very nice people. How terrible it must be for so many now.

After reading a lot of people talking about how devastated they are their vacation got cancelled it was really nice to read your post. Thank you for staying so positive.
