Does anyone here live in any of those areas? My sister is contemplating a move to Florida (she suffers from post-polio syndrome and the winters are killing her) and I just received some literature in the mail that she had me send for on-line..

They're small magazine-type realty magazines that show all the various places for sale in those areas.. The majority of them are mobile homes - or maufactured homes - in 55+ communities and I can't believe how incredibly LOW the prices are!! They range in price all the way from $9000 up to $50,000 and ALL look very nice..

I have two questions though.. Are these types of parks in those areas really nice - and - what about hurricanes? I know there are zillions of these parks in Florida, so is it just a matter of taking your chances?

This would be a BIG move for her and I'd hate to see her make a mistake at her age (she's on SS now) so I thought I would ask if anyone here has specific information..

Thanks!

Hello C. Ann!

I own a home in Clearwater, Florida and have lived in Pinellas County (Clearwater, St. Petersburg, Seminole, Largo, Pinellas Park, and some other small cities/towns) since my parents moved the family here in 1985.

The area, as everywhere, has it's positive and negative aspects. There are an incredible amount of mobile home parks in the area and they really vary in quality, upkeep, curb appeal, and price range. I have seen some that I wouldn't really care to even walk through, let alone live in. Others appear very well kept and upscale.

As for storms, I'm not too sure what individuals would do. Florida has a step-wise hurricane evacuation emergency plan. This means that different areas and people are asked to evacuate as the threat and strength of a storm grows. Individuals who live in mobile homes are always on the first tier to evacuate. I am assuming that these individuals either evacuate to community storm shelters, completely leave the area, or evacuate to friends and/or relatives in safer areas.

Hope this helps some!
