Clearwater Beach

We are making a day trip to Clearwater, thank you to the pp who mentioned the "Stingray Shuffle". I wouldn't have thought to do that and might have had a nasty surprise. Thanks!!! :goodvibes

It may be a longer drive, but you definitely would not regret picking Clearwater Beach over Cocoa. We vacationed at Clearwater Beach when I was growing up and still go there occasionally. Its a nice area. The Gulf beaches are so nice and the sand is nice and white. The beaches also seem cleaner to me. We visited Cocoa Beach last year for the first time and hated it. It was ugly and not very clean. We'd been spoiled by the "quaintness" of Clearwater Beach. I will never visit Cocoa Beach again. Have a great time!

I was wondering why everyone was looking for hotels at Clearwater, only an hour and a half from Disney is not too far for a day trip, we are already booked for a week, and to be honest, I prefer a pool to the beach. My kids are very excited to go to the beach, though, they love sand in their suits, I guess ! LOL:confused3

We are looking because we fly into Orlando, spend the week at Disney, go to Clearwater for a day or two and then fly out of Tampa.

We're just back from a lovely couple of days at the Sheraton Sand Key resort in Clearwater Beach. The weather was perfect, the hotel was perfect...I hated to leave!! Any questions?

Ann

Anyone familiar with Hilton in clearwater?
We want pool and on the beach and reasonable nightly rate (under 250). Is this close to the pier everyone is mentioning?

The Sandpearl looked nice but that one is more than 300 a night so thats out. I also heard there is a Sheraton???
ANY RECOMMENDATIONS, its for just 3 nights before Disney, DH, DS (teen) and me!
THANKS!~!

There's a Hilton on Mandaly Ave in Clearwater Beach. It is directly ON the beach, adjacent to the Pier 60 pier and park. The hotel was nice but the loation was FANTASTIC! Walking distance to the Marina, restaurants and shops on the beach with a pool. Kind of expensive depending on the time of year, but worth it, imho, for location alone.

If your driving in, and don't mind a 15 minute drive down the beach, there are lots of mom and pop places all down the beach. I personally would rather stay at one of these, although I can't give you names off the top of my head. We've stayed at a few. The beaches are pretty much the same just quieter away from Clearwater. Indian Rocks, Indian Shores, Redington, and Maderia are all very close to Clearwater, all on the same road. I prefer Redington, and Indian Rocks. We stayed at Coral Shores for a week here's some info on that.

I live in Pinellas County (Clearwater, Indian Rocks aka IRB, Redington, ETC), and the Hilton on Clearwater Beach is right in the middle of the action part of the beach. Yes, it's across from the Marina, so there is deep sea fishing, pirate rides, someone mentioned the Sea Screamer, all of that stuff. However, just a couple of miles south is Sand Key (actually still a part of Clearwater Beach, but on the other side of Clearwater Pass) and across the street from the Marriott is the Sheraton Sand Key. In my opinion, the best location on the Beach adjoining Sand Key Park. Just a little bit more low key, if that's what you're looking for.
Be sure to check out Frenchy's for a grouper sandwich and some gumbo.

I live in Clearwater and for lunch, I HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend Frenchys! I go to school at UF and miss is so much that it is the first place i go when I come home. It is so popular, that there are actually 4 restaurants on Clearwater Beach alone!

Thank you all so much for the clearwater info and the Hilton nfo, DH wants pool and beach so it seems to fit the bill, rate was reasonable as well.
THANKS AGAIN!

I notice your upcoming trips. Also from PA, do you always fly down? Getting any deals?

Sorry, hadn't checked this thread in a few days. Yes we always fly down. We live about an hour north of Pittsburgh. Our Sept. trip was my best deal, I booked over Mother's day weekend when Airtran had the $25 coupon. Our flights were $51.50 non-stop taxes included. Our December flights are with Airtran too, they were $74 non-stop taxes included. We flew down in January on Southwest for $59 each way.
