We'll be in WDW in two days - staying first at WL and then BWV!

We're thinking of taking a side trip to Clearwater Beach since it looks the weather will be nice and we've never ventured from the WDW area. Has anyone done this just for the day and how far is it from BWV?

Writing this from Room 7212 at SSR.

I live very close to Clearwater Beach. The drive from WDW is not a bad one. I-4 to I-275 to SR 60. Head west on SR 60, it dead ends at the Gulf of Mexico (Clearwater Beach).

You should be able to make the drive in 1-1/2 to 2 hours. Enjoy your stay in the Clearwater area!

Just came back from a day trip. We love it there although it is getting more and more traffic over the past several yeras with their building of high rises. It was a pretty easy ride.

Thanks everyone! Are there other beaches in the area with less traffic? We would like to do some shelling and just hanging out.

Also, what time does it get dark at this time of the year? It gets dark at 4:30-5:00 at home so it makes for a short day. I want to make sure we have some day light time at the beach and it's tough to get our teens up.

I was never a fan of the west coast of Florida until my Son moved to the Tampa area......the gulf is amazing and I have fallen in love with it.....we live in NJ and are OKW DVC members and we love to go to Disney and find our way to the gulf.....the ride isn't bad at all. Our absolute best time was when we stayed at the Sheraton Sand Key Resort!!! It was like a little bit of heaven....believe it or not!!!! I don't know how to explain exactly, but you wind up out further than the beach and I believe the hotels there are on the keys......you go over a bridge and there are many hotels right on the beach.

Enjoy if you go!!!!!!

Our relatives that live near there have always picked out the Reddington Beach area, (and renting a condo for the week) which has always been a nice, relaxed beach for families. Never had any issues with too many people...
