On the thread about cutting things out to save money someone mentioned they shop the clearance isle of the store firs then plan meals around what they find there. So what stores have clearance sections? or are they scattered all over?

Publix usually has a little island cart full of different stuff. I found a chicken taco package thing there. Usually lots of bath and beauty products. Sometimes cleaning or vitamins. Total random stuff you can find there, I always take a look at it every time I'm in the store. And then there's usually one section in the freezer at the very end for frozen foods. Sometimes if they have a couple days old bread, usually after a holiday when they're closed, they'll have a set up near the front of the store. Holidays are another good time, I've always found the "holiday" storage containers on sale. Go ziploc for thinking they need to make green and red containers for Christmas.

Hurricanes are good times for getting refridged stuff ^.^ for cheap. But I guess that doesn't work where you live...

Two of our local grocery stores, Meijer and Family Fare, have little carts of clearance merchandise that they put by the bottle return centers. They both usually have discounted meat in the meat case, but you have to get there pretty early to get the good stuff for cheap.

Our Kroger will clearance stuff when it close to expiration. I just bought a dozen of the pasturized eggs for .75. Sometimes milk gets clearanced a few days before also. Target is a huge one to clearance stuff just because. That is a store that I shop the outside perimeter before I go down the isles.

At Genuardis, I have gotten 1 lb turkey sausage for .79 cents; turkey cold cuts for .59 cents; 1+ lbs turkey & pork loin for $1; shampoo for .50 cents and $1; etc. Great deals; all are close to expiration, but I buy and freeze right away.

I love target clearance. But if you don't grab it when you see it, you won't see it again.

One of my better finds, was a family tent for like 50% off, and we still use it 5 years later. And last jan, I needed some toothpaste, so I went to the isle to pick mine up. Headed back to the front, and on an end cap, was my toothpaste with 2 travel size tubes on clearance for cheaper than the tube only was.

Target is definatly one you need to shop the end caps before going down the isles.

I agree about Target. Right now mine has cereal red tagged bc it is in "back to school packaging. aka 2 box tops for education per bx.

I agree about Target....the other day on the end cap I found some Disney Raisins, dried fruits. The boxes are so cute they have Disney comics on them They were $1.13 for the whole package.
They are ready to take to Disney World for our snacks... YEAH :)

Another one that loves Target clearance. I just found hand sanitizer spray today for $.62 and got about 8 of them for our trip and to keep in the car. They seem to last longer than the gel kind.

I always check King Soopers when I'm in there. They have tons of bakery stuff marked down every week, and last week I got 5 polo shirts for myself for $1.09 each!

I shop at Shaw's and Market Basket. Both have a cart at the back of the vegetables with things that are clearanced. Sometimes it's junk already, sometimes it needs to be cooked today, and sometimes it's still pretty good. I buy a lot of beans and squash that way, then freeze it.

The meat is in with the rest of the meat, it just has a coupon on it for clearance.

Both stores have a cart in the back of the store with clearance stuff on it. It tends to be things that got banged up. The regular clearance stuff stays on the shelf with a label on it.

stop and shop has a cart with clearance items, i have seen it in the back and the front of the store,
but the best thing is the bakery clearance cart. its 50% off and its day old so still fresh, i usually find good rolls and breads, and they almost always have the yummy cakes on the cart too :thumbsup2

Safeway has a markdown cart in the back that I got clorox geenworks for 1.25 and chicken broth for 1.00! They also do the cheap meat with coupons
