We are staying in a 2bdr for the first time (studios in the past) and I would like to know if people clean the whirlpools before using them. If so, what do you use and do you feel secure using it after the cleaning?

Thanks for any help

the last thing on vacation you should be worrying about is cleaning the whirlpool. But I have always wondered also, but honestly, we have never used it!!! Has anyone contacted housekeeping and asked if they cleaned them, when mine at home gets "gunky" I have in the past run cascade through it, filled it up over the jets and let it run for 20 minutes. I wonder if they bleech them out or what?? Or do they do anything?

After reading a few threads about it, on the last trip to HH, I filled it past the jets and used a packet of dishWASHER (not liquid dish soap) soap, and ran it for 20 min. That was the only time, since no one except my son used it. I read that they clean the tub, but water collects in the pipes. We don't cook much, so we have enough dishwasher soap to do this.

Hi,

We have become addicted to the bath bombs they sell at Basin downtown.

We call them fizzlebombs.

Amyway we really enjoy using the Jacuzzis in the rooms. We do hot water with a dishwash packet , run, then drain and scrub. Then fill and run again with plain water to rinse.

Then Im very comfortable to put my tush in the tub.

(im very picky even at home with bathtub cleanliness.)
I can honestly say the tubs never seemed dirty, but I have to do it so I can feel relaxed.

This whole process is part of my unpacking ritual. I also run the coffee maker through with hot water. It only takes a few minutes.

Guess that leaves me in the minority. I usually just fill it up and hop in.

Ditto! :teeth:

Thank you for the info. If it was just me I may just jump in but with the kids I am a little more careful

I know I need a WDW fix REALLY bad when the words "unpacking ritual" make me tear up!!! I want an "unpacking ritual"!!!! We are brand spanking new owners to DVC (meaning we haven't even been home ONCE!!), and there was just something about those words that made me feel like I really OWN there (like the bills coming in aren't enough!!!).

I just really need to be there!!!

I absolutely do not clean bathtubs when I am on vacation!

Me neither, guess some of us just like to livin' on the edge.

Another filler-up and jump in person here. Unless it looks dirty when we check in, which it never has.

I also use towels more than once before cleaning.

We have never bothered with cleaning it like that before using it even with our kids mind you we do thagt after we have stayed there and before checking out for the next people coming in.

Yep, no cleaning for me on vacation, and my Mom kept a Bed & Breakfast (where the jacuzzi was thoroughly cleaned after every occupant - with the dishwasher detergent). But us, we're not gonna clean it, ourselves. If there are any scary germs in there, they'll just have to help us toughen up our immune systems.

This December will be our first stay in a DVC w/jacuzzi, and add us to the "Just jump in" list.

I'm glad I visited this post first. What a tonic for a tiring day:teeth: I get to envision all the DVC owners booties plopped in their jacuzzi's...with or without a good cleaning first! I love my Disboards::yes::

I've not been home yet either, but now I know what to do if my whirlpool looks scuzzy:earseek: Otherwise, I'll just hop right in...

I confess, I fill the tub, run the jets and use dishwasher detergent for 10 minutes or so to clean the tub before using.

I just run water and run the jets mostly to make sure that everything is in working order before I get in.The tubs have always been sparkling clean.
