Am I the only one who "re-cleans" the tub in the one bedroom villas before using it? If you do, what do you pack to clean it with?

I have never cleaned the tub. Although I have asked mousekeeping to re-clean on once.

I would think you could take any of those cleaning wipes with you - Chlorox, Lysol, etc.

When I first got my jacuzzi, I was told that dishwasher detergent is good for cleaning...low suds. That is what I use.

It only makes sense to me. I know that dirty water that someone has bathed in has run through the pipes, and you don't clean those by just washing out the tub. Sometimes you also find that mold has built up, depending on how long the water has sat in them.

By the way, I still have my Jacuzzi 101 instructions on my web site for those that are unfamiliar with the tubs.

how do you 're clean'. never heard of it ... do you go back in time and clean....???.. sorry please help me reason this.....

how do you 're clean'

they are simply saying when they get there, they clean it before using the first time even though (supposedly) housekeeping cleaned it already before they arrived.

I too worry about the water left in the tubes of the jacuzzi. We always clean our home jacuzzi with automatic dishwasher soap, so that is what I use on vacation too. I usually fill and run the jacuzzi for 10 minutes with a coupld teaspoons of Auto dish washer soap before I fill it or myself. If you have sensitive skin, also run a rinse cycle afterwards.

I also worry about the dirty water in the pipes. One of the first things I do while I am unpacking is throw some of the dishwashing powder in the tub add the water and run it for awhile. I then drain it, fill it and run it again with clear water since both my daughter and I have sensitive skin and I don't want to be sitting in dishwasher soap from the pipes. I do quick wash cloth on the inside of the tub, but I am not really worried about that as much since housekeeping cleaned that as I am about what is in those pipes.

I do the same exact thing Terry. I start filling it up as soon as I walk into the master bath. I use warm water for the wash "cycle" and cold water for the rinse. Then I'm good to go.

What a great idea, I never thought about doing this! I don't use the jacuzzi just for this reason, now I will be able to!!!

The first time I ever used the jacuzzi I was relaxing in it and then noticed brown scum on the water line. Yuk! I didn't use it again. The last trip, DH wanted to use it, so I insisted we buy bleach when we went to the grocery store. I never noticed any scum, so perhaps it was just some problem with the pipes of the first jacuzzi.
Thanks for the DW detergent tip. I'll try that next time.

Thank you for your suggestions. I will use the dishwasher soap. Thats a great idea. The clorox wipes will be the last step. I knew I wasn't the only one who "re-cleaned" after housekeeping did their thing!

I've never re-cleaned the jacuzzi...too lazy

As a owner of a Hot Tub Spa -

Before we use the "Whirlpool Bath" - we fill the tub with water that is only hot enough for the hand to handel, (WARNING) the hot water at VWL surpasses scolding temp's and its a long wait for the water to cool down before you can reach that @2 foot deep drain plug (I learned the hard way last year - the 2 seconds was enough)

2nd, Wife and kids goto pool - since we buy bleach for our laundry anyway we pour about 1/2 gallon of Ultra Clorox into filled tub and run for @ 15mins. We do this not only to clean but also to disinfect any leftover water that always remains in the pump and jet lines from previous room users. Also, open the patio/balcony door/doors to introduce fresh air into the room - which is recommended when using cleaners.

Last is to re-rinse the tub at least 2x filling the tub to just above the jets to clear the lines of bleach and running the pump both times for a few minutes.

Yes the room will have a "left over" bleach scent (look for a scented bleach - helps a little) but thats why the family went to the pool and your soon to follow.

kda - I was relaxing in it and then noticed brown scum on the water line

kda, the brown scum you noticed is either sweat, lotions or deoderants from a previous user or yourself. The brown scum is even more noticable when the air valve introduces bubbles into the water - the scum particles "attach themselves" in turn rising to the top of the water and when it pops - the scum clings to the fiberglass tub causing the "scum line". It is the same problem as in a Hot Tub Spa but is easily lessened considerably by simply having users shower prior to using the tub - Pain in the a**? Yes. But its a lot nicer opening your eyes after 20 min's and not saying "WHAT IS THIS STUFF ALL OVER ME ?!?!?!?" and taking that shower anyway.

Enjoy that stress relieving whirlpool bath!!

I've always felt they could remove the trash and towel day and lower my maintenance fee since I "Clean" my room after I check in everytime and during my stay I wash my towels and there is never any trash in the room for them to "take out" - Anyone know what percentage the "trash and towel" days cost membership annually?

I have a bath tub with a jacuzzi at my own home and no matter how I clean the tub I always get the black mold coming out unless I clean it before using.
I just recently tried that purple "Kaboom" stuff and it worked fantasticly.
You can spray the kaboom right into the jets where the mold sits and let it sit for a few minutes. Then fill the tub with water and let it run for about 1/2 hour. run out the water, rinse the tub and your ready to go.
I don't think the clorox wipes will work to get the sitting junk out of the jets so try the kaboom.
I never tried the dishwashing liquid, but that is an idea too. I use the liquid at home, wonder if that would work as well as the dry powder? Peggie

I use the liquid dishwasher soap at home for my dishwasher and for cleaning my whirlpool (since that is what the manufacturer of my whirlpool recommends). Any soap made for dishwashers should work. They are all made to be low foaming.

Is Kaboom something like scrubbing bubbles? With all this talk about brown scum and black stuff, I think I'm going to try everything - clorox, kaboom and dishwasher detergent! Do they sell clorox at BWV? Thank you all for taking the time to answer my questions.

We also use the dishwashing soap to preclean the jacuzzi. Cleans out the pipes and jets.

ralphd:D :D :D

I dont have a jacuzzi at home so didn't have any idea about the pipes, jets, or pump still have used bath water in them....Now I know....
