My DD spilled a little sprite on the keyboard a couple weeks ago. I wiped in and around the keys with a damp washcloth and a Q-tip, but some of it must still be in there because a couple of the numbers stick when pressed now. Is there any way I can clean it or fix it, or am I doomed to buy a new keyboard? Any advise appreciated---thanks!

I had some keys that stuck because something got spilled into the keyboard. I just sprayed some clorox hard surface cleaner on my keyboard and used q-tips to clean it several times. It took a while for the keys to no longer stick, but eventually they did.

Thank you. I'm going to try to clean it again before I give up and replace it. It's really a nice keyboard, so I'd hate to throw it away.

YOu can easily pop the keys off in the area of the spill. I'll pop all the keys off of mine every once in awhile and clean all underneath. I love my keyboard and I hate when I have to use a new one, it takes me so long to get comfy with it.

I've done a full cleaning several times before. Be sure you have either a pic of your layout or another keyboard to compare it with. Remove all your keys, and place in a bowl of warm water with a little dish soap. There usually is a vinyl splash mat under the keys. If so, and contaminants haven't gotten past it, you can just wipe it with a damp cloth. Sometimes, it's possible to clean it a little more thoroughly. Dry it and the keys completely. Then, snap the keys back in place using the pic as a reference.

Or, you could spend ten bucks and get a new one. :surfweb:

I didn't realize you could take the keys off. Thanks for the advise on that, I'll try it.

You could also unplug the keyboard and put it under running water or soak it in the tub. (You're supposed to use filtered water for this, but my water isn't that hard.) Take it out after a few good swishes, put it on a towel, let it dry a few days.

It doesn't matter with this method where the spill is or how much there was, you just have to use it ASAP after the spill.

I have had two keyboards for years because I am clumsy and I spill. (I spill, I unplug that keyboard and wash it, set it to dry, plug in other keyboard. When original keyboard dries, I put it in the top of the closet and it becomes the spare. . .repeat ad nauseum.)
