What is the best (and safest) way to clean kerosene out of an old hurricane lamp?
I have one here at the lake - very, very pretty - an antique - that I would like to use as a centerpiece in the middle of my antique dining room table.. (I have others that are useable - should the need ever arise - and would prefer to use this one as a direction of sorts..)
However, there is a small amount of kerosene left in the bottom and I'm not sure how to dispose of it.. (There's no wick in the lantern and not enough kerosene left in there to burn it off even if I had the wick..) I know I could pour out what's left - in the fire pit or something (obviously not while there's a fire burning) - but the odor would still linger inside the lamp..
Any suggestions?
Thanks..
