cleaning before the cleaning lady gets here?

DH splurged for me and got me a cleaning lady.


But now Im picking up before she gets here. Please tell Im not alone here LOL.

When I use to have someone clean my house, I would also pick up around the house. Especially my DS toys and little stuff. My DH use to think I was "nuts" for doing this.

That is so funny, my DH and I were just talking about this the other day. I always do this. Rushing around every other Wed. morning trying to get things put back in place. But isn't it so nice coming home from work and the house smells great and everything is so nice and neat.

The only time it really bothers me is if I took the time to clean the house up (and it shouldn't cause I should do it more anyways) and she ends of not showing up. She never calls ahead of time if she isn't coming, I usually go home and find that she left a message and was sick or something comes up.

I do this to but only because I have her do the "heavy cleaning".... I don't pay her to pick up after me. It is kinda funny though

I spend several hours every other Sunday getting ready for them to come Monday. They don't pick up; they clean surfaces they can get to!

Eventually I want to get to the point where I don't have to do this, but with three very active, busy kids it just doesn't happen. And I need the motivation of knowing they're coming to get everything in relative order.

Okay, I can do one better.
I don't currently have a cleaning lady and I do okay with cleaning the bathrooms, vacuuming etc. but I can NOT, really can NOT keep the house tidy. I've given myself another two weeks to tidy/declutter the spare bedroom and the den and then I'm getting a cleaning lady so that it will force me to do that every other week pick up.
Do you think I missed out on some sort of self motivation class in elementary school?

Yeah, I'm not alone! I don't have a cleaning lady, but I know that would happen if I did.

I always tell my friends who work full time that they should not feel guilty about having a cleaning lady. But now, I'm like "Hey! Since I'm at home, my kids have at least 8 extra hours to trash the house. I should get one too." Somehow, I don't think DH would go for that though.

DH is a SAHD. The extent to which he gets the house ready for the cleaning lady DRIVES ME NUTS!!! He takes everything from the kids' floors and puts it on their beds...same with our room, only he adds everything else from the surfaces (everything from atop the dressers, etc.) He puts everything from the kitchen counters on the dining room table (so that never gets cleaned by the cleaning lady), everthing from the bathroom counters goes under the sinks; he even puts the breakfast room chairs in the garage. INSANE! Then of course, when I get home, everything that was on the surface is either still where it was or thrown on in a totally haphazard way. I totally have to put the whole house together every other week. I hate it...(but not enough to clean the toilets or floors myself... )

You're not alone. I have to tidy-up before the cleaning ladies come. They don't know where the clutter really belongs. With my luck, they'd put something away in a spot I'd never find.

Actually, looking back I should have hired one before my wedding last month. I was up until 2 AM one night cleaning so my MIL-to-be wouldn't think I was a bad housekeeper. It would have saved me a lot of work and let me get a decent nights sleep!

You finally break down and get a housekeeper when you don't CARE if your MIL thinks you're a bad housekeeper!

When the kids were little, the only time the house got a good cleaning was when either my parents or my inlaws came to visit. Then I got so tired that I stopped cleaning when my inlaws came (they're HIS parents-let HIM clean), and only cleaned when my parents came. That led to some pretty grimy conditions...so after a year or so of that, we broke down and hired someone.

My DH always thinks I crazy because I do this too! But like you guys have said, I pay her to do the heavy cleaning, not to pick up clutter. Besides it forces me to clean up at least every other Wed!

My older sons are still making jokes about me cleaning before the cleaning people come. They think I'm nuts. One time I was on the phone with a friend and was telling the kids to hurry up and pick up because the cleaning people were coming and my friend thought I was nuts! THe truth is I'm really only picking up and straightening up so they can clean but now my kids have a running joke that Mom is so crazy she cleans for the cleaning people!

Ive never had a cleaning lady before so this is a first for me


If it works well I think Ill have her come back every couple of weeks too that would really help me out and like you guys said, force me to pick up every other week LOL



When I think about it, I dont know why I didnt do it sooner. I guess I wanted to be "super mom" but I work pretty much full time here in my home office. Hey now that I think about it, it should be a bit of a tax deduction too shouldnt it? Since I work here and claim my office?

DH is wonderful and really helps out a lot but it still really gets to me, I think I should be able to do it all.

great now I have cleaning lady guilt.

I'm usually paying bills or folding laundry, or finishing picking up in a room she hasn't gotten to yet. (I'm always home when they're there; DH doesn't want people in the house with nobody home. And since I'm the one who wants them and I'm the one with the flexible work schedule, I'm the one who's there with them.)

I keep thinking I should cancel it because I really can't afford it, but the house just deteriorates too fast. We missed a cleaning when we were out of town, and it was SO much harder getting cleaned up for the cleaners just with that extra two weeks of clutter added in.

Piglet that is so true. When my cleaning lady doesn't show up, I know it as soon as I open the door. I can tell by the smell of my house, then I get into the worse mood imaginable......as if Monday's aren't hard enough, now I have to do the laundry, empty the dishwasher, scrub everything....my hubby gets home before me and has learned that when she doesn't clean, he starts to clean is...I guesss my mood is THAT BAD that he is trying to cover for her

Wow - I think I just said that to DH this weekend! I actually just joined the SAHM club, after working for the first 2 years with our dd. The past 2 years that I was working, we had a cleaning lady. Every week it was the same joke - "We gotta clean, the cleaning ladies are coming tomorrow!"

But I agree it was just picking everything up - I never actually "cleaned" anything!

So the deal was once I stayed home, we would cancel the cleaning lady. NOw, I'm starting to have second thoughts. Castleview, you are so right....our house seems more messy now than before! NOw that we are home all day...I definitely need my cleaning lady back!
