This is how I clean mine:

1. Get in my car
2. Drive to the nearest mall
3. Go inside
4. Stop at the first jewelry store I pass, usually Zales, Gordons, etc.
5. Ask the sales clerk is I could get my rings cleaned
6. As they clean then, browse the jewelry and dream
7. When finished, admire the sparkling diamonds and thank the salesclerk profusely
8. The End.

I am a clean jewelry freak - here's my recipe -

Boil about 1/8 c (or less) of water in a glass measuring cup (microwave)
add an equal amount of ammonia (NOT while it's microwaving!)
add a few tsp of dishwashing soap...

Soak, then brush with an old toothbrush. Then I usually pour the cleaning concoction into whatever happens to be in the sink, needing washing!

My very first job was in a jewelry store as a gift wrapper. Since I was in the back, they used to have me mix up the cleaning solution. This is basically what we used - I just mixed it in larger quantities. I use this at home - I leave my rings in it to soak for a couple of hours & finish with a little brush. Bleach and toothpaste can both damage the gold.

I use the jewelry cleaner that came with my engagement ring. I also take my ring back every 6 months for a check up and cleaning.

I spent 5 years working in a jewelery store. We used ammonia and water - about 2 parts water to 1 part ammonia. We had a cleaner that kept it hot, but I just put it in an old Tupperware type container and use it as I need it. Soak rings for a few minutes and then scrub with an old toothbrush. Be sure to scrub the underside of your diamond and up underneath your setting.

That is what I have used for years. I have been married for over 18 years..that is a lot of cleaning and I have never had a problem with it.

I have always used some dishsoap and warm water. Works fine. If I am in the mall and not in a hurry, have the jewelry store clean it for me.
