Cleaning a Coffee Maker

I made coffe yesterday and had to throw it out. I think my coffe maker has some type of mineral build up. WHere I put the water in, the water reseviour, it was yellow. Just couldn't drink my coffee. So how do I clean a coffe maker?

I use several methods --

At Publix, in the coffee aisle where the filters are, Mr. Coffee has a box of two packets of coffee machine cleaner. You put it through the coffee making cycle with water -- just follow the instructions.

Also, if you don't use the packet of Mr. Coffee cleaner, you can use CLR, diluted with water, through the coffee maker. Just follow the instructions on the CLR jug.

Or, if you don't want to purchase anything, you can do the same thing with white vinegar. Just add some vinegar to the water in the water container and run it through like a pot of coffee.

For any of these methods, always make sure you RUN SEVERAL CYCLES OF REGULAR, CLEAR WATER AFTERWARDS to make sure you have gotten rid of all the debris and cleaner/vinegar.

It does make a difference when you clean you machine

I just cleaned ours on Sunday. This is what the machine's directions recommend:

First, make sure the machine is off. Pour one cup of vinegar in the water trough. Turn the machine on. Allow the vinegar to flow for 30 seconds. Turn off the machine. Allow the vinegar to sit for 30 minutes. Turn on the machine and complete the cycle. Follow the vinegar cycle with at LEAST 2 full cylces of full pots of clear water. Wash the carafe and the filter holder with soap and water.
