Classmates.com Question...

Okay if I pay the $36 dollars and join can I see everyones emaill address or do they have to have paid the money and joined as well?

There are quite a few old friends I would love to be in contact with but if they aren't a Gold member also will their email still show up?

I am not a member, but I think you will get the emails addresses of those who also sign up, otherwise they have no clue...Hope that helps

Classmates is the 'middle man' so to speak...

You send an e-mail through the site..but you don't actually lay eyes on their actual e-mail address...same when they reply. The e-mail comes back via Classmates.com

At least that's how it is for me...

i think that's how it was for me too...i joined a few years back but only for the year. i had said that if i found certain names that it was worth the $30 to sign up for it...but i let the membership run out...

You can e-mail anyone on their site if you're a member...paying your fee. Once you've made contact through them, it's up to you whether or not you exchange your regular e-mail addresses. I recently did that with a classmate of mine.

This is one of my favorite sites. I am a member, but what really ticks me off is when I saw my best friend had joined,he never paid his fee so I cant contact him or he cant contact me..That is so frustrating..But I have also wrote to some long lost friends who have responded..Its a great site with a few drawbacks...You CANNOT get other peoples email..

When I first joined about 3 years ago, you COULD see everyone's e-mail addresses. It's different now. You e-mail them, but you don't get to see their address any longer. Here's another change they made: Even if you didn't join you could still leave messages on the Message boards. Not anymore. Now you have to be a paying member to participate in the message boards. Well guess what?? The Message boards don't move any more, there's no new messages to read.
I no longer think it's worth the price to join. I'll be cancelling my membership. It used to be fun, it no longer is.

I agree! All the "good" things about classmates.com seem to be long in the past. I have no problem with joining something like this, but seems that after I joined (only did 1 yr.) everything got out of hand with them charging for this and that, and I just didn't find it as appealing or easy to use. Seems that after they got enough people "hooked" to get it up and running, they decided to start charging for all their services instead of leaving a few things for free.
