I know there was a thread about a month ago for Christmas craft ideas. I can not seem to find it on the search. I am looking for the craft ideas for 3rd grade Christmas parties. Does anyone remember this?? TIA

I don't know about the other thread but I am planning my son's third grade class christmas party and we are making snowglobes and are going on a scavenger hunt to find Frosty and he has lost all his pieces in different classrooms at school. We may do Christmas bingo if we have any time left. Hope this helps.

How do you make the snowglobe?

In 3rd grade I baked salt-dough ornaments and the kids painted them for the craft. I went in the next day to spray coat them so they would last (this must be done outside) 2 years later, we still have them.

This year for 2nd grade we a re decorating stockings with glitter glue/sequens/beads/ribbons/whatever

And for 5th grade they don't want a craft. They just made thumb-print ornaments, so we are only playing games... the main one being "bow-finder"

we are taking about 100 bows, having teams of 5-6 kids. On the bottom of the bows we are spelling out "Merry Christmas" (enough for all the teams to spell it) and then putting random letters on the bottoms of the left over bows. The teams race to spell the word and finish first. They can only pick 1 bow, if they don't get the right one, the next kiddo goes. and so on...

Great ideas!!! Could you please explain how to make the snowglobes.
Also, I am confused about the game with the bows. Could you explain it again. Sorry, my brain is fried from shopping

Michaels has their clear glass ornaments half off. I bought 6 for $2.50 (I think). We are taking of the hook part, squirting in a few drops of different color paint, putting the hook part back on and shaking, turning, whatever them around to paint the inside. I think I'm also going to get some paint pens so they can write their names on the outside.

You could make candycanes and wreaths using pipe cleaners and beads.

Bingo- give each child a blank Bingo card (spell something like GIFTS, X-MAS, or SANTA at the top) and write all of the words on the board. Tell the kids to fill in their chart any way that they want (less work for you).

Buy funfoam and cut out ornament shapes (wreath, stocking, balls, candycanes, stars, etc) and have the kids decorate them with glitter, fun foam pieces, ribbon, etc. Hole punch the top for a ribbon.

I saw a cute stockingidea in Parenting mag th eother day. Cut out a stocking from 2 pieces of felt. Cut slits along sides and bottom. lace with ribbon. You could probably do something similar wiht fun foam. Decorate. You could also place a candycane and pencil in each for the kids to take home.

You could move to our school district where every class has to do the same thing. Same snack, same craft, same everything. And if there is an allergy in another 3rd grade class (peanut, food dye etc...) that will determine YOUR class snack since it ALL has to be the same. Can you tell I'm a little bitter?
I like the scavenger hunt idea though, sounds pretty good. Merry Christmas!

That actually sounds good to me. I'm so tired of thinking of games to play and crafts to make at class parties ... I would love it if someone said, "You need to do X craft, X project and have X snack. Here is your shopping list."

It sounds good (I guess in theory) but to me it is indicative of our school district in general. And our elementary school is a Blue Ribbon School (not sure exactly what the standards were for that to happen) but I think as more and more the teachers have to teach a certain way, and maybe that comes down from the Administration, they seem to be losing their creativity and individuality. Or maybe they don't have time any more to be creative and individual. So it is easier to just say everything the same. I can remember our class parties, back when they were Christmas parties, and we always had fun, and we could actually (horrors) have candy and cupcakes. And now its like well here is your cookie, Goldfish and a juice box, live it up!

great ideas!!! Any more. I love the snow globes but there are 25 kids so I think I would pull my hair out. Maybe something to do at home with my own kids or for our brownie troop.

The Bow Seekers Game

take about 100 bows, I got mine at Dollar Store with 25 in a bag. Decide on a Christmas word. For 5th grade we are using MERRY CHRISTMAS for 2nd grade we are using SANTA. Write one letter on the bottom of each bow. Make sure that if you have the kids divided into 3 teams have the word spelled out 3 times, 4 teams=4 times word is spelled out. Put all of the bows in a pile across the room from where the kids are. One at a time, they run across the room and look for a lettered bow that they need to spell their word. When all of the letters are collected that teams wins. They can only pick up one bow, if they don't get the letter they need, next kiddos turn. Everybody should be able to go 2-3 times.

Our gym teacher does a game similar to this every year and the kids LOVE it So we kind of stole his game!

Thanks for this idea! I am in charge of the game for my DD10's 5th grade Holiday party. I think this would be fun. I am thinking "Happy Holidays" would work for us. I think there are 21 kids in the group so could either do 5 groups of 4, or 4 groups of 5. I am thinking it will be more fun with fewer kids in group. I think it's a trip to the Dollar Tree tomorrow.!

I'm the room mom again this year, and though I adore the crafts and ideas here, I know they would never get off the ground at my school due to diversity issues. The santa sleigh is precious, but we have too many in the classroom who would not appreciate the reference to a Christian holiday, so the best we could do is an empty sleigh or sled.

Our theme is based on snow. The school calls this our "Winter Party", so we celebrate snowmen, snowflakes, hot cocoa, icicles, sledding, etc.

So many moms are up in arms about nutrition that we are only serving goldfish/pretzels, a gingerbread cookie (store-bought), and water (no sugary drinks were considered). Oh, maybe some popcorn too.

And, since so many don't celebrate Christmas and choose not to contribute to the party fund, we don't have money for party favors, crafts or elaborate treats. :confused3

This will be my last year as room mom within this school district. Sad.
