I'm the room mom again this year, and though I adore the crafts and ideas here, I know they would never get off the ground at my school due to diversity issues. The santa sleigh is precious, but we have too many in the classroom who would not appreciate the reference to a Christian holiday, so the best we could do is an empty sleigh or sled.
Our theme is based on snow. The school calls this our "Winter Party", so we celebrate snowmen, snowflakes, hot cocoa, icicles, sledding, etc.
So many moms are up in arms about nutrition that we are only serving goldfish/pretzels, a gingerbread cookie (store-bought), and water (no sugary drinks were considered). Oh, maybe some popcorn too.
And, since so many don't celebrate Christmas and choose not to contribute to the party fund, we don't have money for party favors, crafts or elaborate treats.
This will be my last year as room mom within this school district. Sad.
