Maybe he'll get offered merit scholarships to offset the cost? I hope he gets offered a good package at the school he wants the most! Playing a sport in college is very impressive, imo. Good for him!

They've all offered merit. But I'm just not sure its enough. Even after merit, its more than double what it cost his elder sister.

My daughter got her first acceptance this morning. UT at Arlington. They just sent an email saying to look out for the acceptance letter. Will that have scholarship information, if she is offered any, that is? So happy she got in! It's one of her top 3.

My son was accepted to Xavier last night with a great scholarship so its within budget for us. He was very excited. Also accepted to Dayton today but they send out their scholarship information later which is a but of a bummer.

Glad to hear your son likes Miami. I think its a top choice for my son as he really liked it when we visited.

Did you get your Dayton info yet? It seems like my son got his about 3 weeks after admission so you'll probably get it any day now. I was actually expecting more money from them. We'll have to compare how it stacks up against everyone else.

Hello everyone. Just checking in. We just dropped our daughter off at the overnight experience at her top choice school. She is pretty excited. We are staying at a hotel 1/2 a mile away. We flew in this weekend from NJ and explored Chicago for a little bit and then drove out to North West Indiana where the school is. So far she likes the town. Tomorrow we have a meeting with her admissions counselor and a tour of the school. We are only doing this because she is REALLY interested in the school, because let me tell you… these little things really add up. Flights, hotel, rental car, food, gas. Let’s see how she feels about it tomorrow.
To the school she had to bring a sleeping bag, pillow, toiletries, shower shoes and change of clothes. They gave her a dinner voucher and will be providing a breakfast “snack” in the morning.
We will meet up with her around 9 am for the tour

It was a tour/sleepover. We went on the college website and saw they were offering it. It was a REALLY nice experience.

My daughter got her first acceptance this morning. UT at Arlington. They just sent an email saying to look out for the acceptance letter. Will that have scholarship information, if she is offered any, that is? So happy she got in! It's one of her top 3.

For the colleges my son got accepted to, the official letter had a card showing the 4-year merit scholarship amount. BTW, even though that 4 year amount seems like a big number, it doesn't seem to go as far as we'd like it.

So we have had an extremely difficult few weeks. On Thanksgiving morning, DH’s uncle (who was as close to him as his dad), passed away unexpectedly. That same day, I had to take our beloved dog to the emergency vet for what turned out to be a very expensive diagnosis via exploratory surgery — she had a perforated ulcer and post surgery would not eat and was slowly failing. 5 days later we made the most difficult decision ever, and she was euthanized while I held her in my arms. Our family and our hearts have been torn into what feels like a million pieces. DH’s uncle’s funeral was 3 days after our dog passed away. That evening I said to him, now would be a great time for some college acceptances to arrive bc we could use some good news. That evening, my DD received her first acceptance, albeit from her last-choice in-state safety school. But we celebrated bc at least we would have Plan D if plans A, B, or C didn’t pan out. One week post-funeral and our daughter received an acceptance to her first choice (and most expensive) school. We are beyond thrilled for her! They do not send any financial/merit info with the acceptance so we will have to wait on that. The Christmas season is helping to restore some cheer and our daughter’s good news has spread throughout the family with much happiness! God is good, hug your family and your pets

DD has befriended a girl from Colorado that will be a future teammate (her college coach put the future freshman in a group text with each other). DD is hoping that she, and the Colorado girl, can request to be roommates, which is great and I’m hoping that works out. Hearing DD talk about this makes everything more real for me - I’m gonna have a hard time with her leaving - her and I are very close.

An emotional day in our household - after 15 years of dance, my daughter will take the Nutcracker stage for the very last time. With split casting, she has already danced her big role as Sugar Plum Fairy, almost to perfection. What a way to go out! So today she gets to enjoy it, just dancing her smaller roles.

7 graduating seniors, all dancing together since they were babies. Lots of tissues needed today.

And the result was that all four ended up being good friends during their totally remote, quarantined freshman year. One of the girls moved in with her boyfriend this year, but the other three have roomed together in an off-campus apartment.

Congratulations! That is just one of the senior-year premier experiences the class of 2020 missed.

DD figure skated at the same rink for 12 years (20+ hours a week), but missed out on all the final-year fun due to covid. Those kinds of outside activities become so much a part of their lives, it's a terrible shame to miss them.

I don't know what emoji to put since there is horrible news with some good news. I'll just say I am so sorry for the loss of your family members (dog included in this of course because those little pals are our family, too!).

But I am so happy for your daughter's acceptances.

Son has received his acceptance to App State and is very happy. He only applied to 2 schools, App and NC State and hasn't heard back from NC State yet. But he thinks even if he gets in, he would prefer App.

Has anyone heard of a "Create your own major"? One school is pushing DS pretty hard to come play soccer (great!) Unfortunately they don't have his major. The coach said "don't worry, we do a 'create your own major' in combination with a larger university and business school". He's not just blowing smoke. I find references to it on their webpage. I just wasn't sure if anyone had experience with something like that.

An independent interdisciplinary major consists of an integrated series of courses selected from at least two of the conventional academic disciplines. Students may devise, in consultation with three faculty members, an academic program suited to an area of special interest.

My daughter received her acceptance from App too! Unfortunately they offered very little merit $$, and only for the first year. Looks like she isn’t going there after all.
