Coming out lurker mode here.. One day I'd mentioned to DH that I saw something about a scrapping "something" at WDW.. but couldn't remember where. Well, next thing he'd the last 3 magazines I'd bought and was going thru them page by page searching..then was so proud when he found it.
I've NEVER been to any kind of organized scrapping event... and boy...it's tempting.. but it's sure a long way... Anyone ever been to one of the CKU events? What about going.......(egads!) alone!! Will I feel .... "lost" (since at Disney, will I feel like poor Stitch?)

but I hear they disappear quickly. I went to Memories Expo alone last fall - wound up meeting some really nice women to have dinner with - didn't mind being alone a bit! I can get more accomplished when I'm only pleasing myself.

Don't count on seeing much Disney, though, when there's a whole lot of scrapping going on!

CKU is a great experience. People come from all over the world for these events. If you are going alone and are afraid you will fell left out nothing is further from the truth. By the time it is over you will make many wonderful friends.

It is organized into dorms. It is just other women with a similar theme. You can pick where you want to be.

They have parties, dress up in costumes, cheers, etc. Tours of local scrapbooking stores, late night crop parties with prizes and goodies. You just can't imagine 600 women and men whipped up into a frenzy over scrapbooking. It is money well spent.

I had planned to go, booked the room and everything, but then we made the decision to put ds in private school so that blew the trip plans. ;) But we're still going for our family trip in October, so I can't complain! I hope everyone who goes has a great time! :)

Hmmmmmmm.... Thanks!!
IF I get in... I figured on going down a couple of days early, (get that initial "hit the parks" urge out)... then spend after the CKU... spend a few more days doing the parks.
I was there this past October, and also in May.. so while I'm I want to do my parks thing, I've also had a fairly recent trip.
One thing, though. I don't plan on staying at the hotel where I'd be part of the "dorms". I'm a DVC member so I'd be using my points to be staying onsite. From what I can tell from the schedule it looks like there's more than enough scheduled to keep me hopping the whole time!

The "dorm" part is not where you physically stay! You get a group together in advance(I met all ten members of mine on-line)
and plan out the assignments(cheers, table decorations, costumes, etc). You may think this is silly, but it is a lot of fun and I am soooo glad I participated. I went alone and made great friends and dressed silly and had a great time. If you do not participate in these activities you will not get as much out of the event(IMHO).

Have fun!

Oh, Boy.... do I feel like a dunce!!! When I was reading, (okay, devouring, soaking up all the info about the CKU and dreaming), I took it that it was only those that were staying at the "host hotel" were part of the "dorms." Guess I was thinking like big sleepover.. or something...
No WAY do I think it's silly!! Actually...sounds like loads of fun..
Each day I get more and more convinced that I should go ahead and try get in... after all.... Moms deserve treats sometimes too!

I was by far the most fun I have had since college(and I have been out of college for a long time!) I did not get alot of sleep! I had only been scrapping for about a year and the classes were very intense IMHO(but the experienced scrappers in my dorm thought they were easy!). I do recommend planning everything out real well! Our group used the internet since we were scattered all over the east coast and never actually met until we were at CKU! We all had assignments as to what to bring and all of our organization and effort showed. We won for best cheer
and we also won for best overall dorm.
