For those who have been to any CKC convention --

Here is my situation. I have been trying to go for years. Something always comes up. One year we were moving. One year I had to have surgery. One year DH's vacation days got recalled -- no sitter,no go. Last year he was deployed. Now, I realize that DD's swimming champisonships are always on the same weekend as CKC convention. So...this year, Friday is the only day I could possibly go.

I have been eyeing up the classes for years. I don't have an LSS, so I ahve no experience with classes. I am thinking about just signing up for classes and forgoing the shopping. Does this make sense?

What would you recommend for a first-timer?

Well... Sign up for classes that interest you, and take a few. My experience is anyone on these boards can handle any of the classes CKC offeres, even the advanced ones. They do move fast though, so don't stress if it's not perfect, just keep going and finish at home... or not, as in my case, I still have a ton from the last CKC that I haven't finished.

And take money, and leave time, because you will be shopping anyway. They have paper and kits there that you will have to buy...

As far as classes I'm no help this will be my first year taking them. I was totally overwhelmed with the shopping alone the first year. So my thought is maybe 1 class that really intrests you and then shopping, cuase you're going to find a ton especially with out an LSS near you.

Most of all relax and enjoy.

I have been to 2 small CKC's - Valley Forge is one of their largest.

I would suggest finding 1 or 2 classes that really interest you- either with techniques you think are cool (I love SEi's techniques) or they have pages/colors/designs you like. Embellish It's class where you make 4- 1 page layouts but can buy the other half is good also- all the layouts are different lines.

Then give yourself some time in the vendor faire- I would suggest getting a class that starts after 10:30 so you can shop when it opens- much easier in the easrly morning than later.

The vendor faire at VF is HUGE. I wish I were going! I'd probably pass on the classes and just shop, unless there was a particular technique or project I was anxious to learn.

I would take a couple of classes and then do the make-n-takes at the Vendor Faire. There are a lot of vendors and to be honest some of their make-n-takes are even better than a class.

Any class by QuickQuotes is going to be fast paced but you'll come out with some great pages. I also love any of Shelby classes - my 10 year old has already told me that she wants to take all her classes since she loved her so much last year,

I can't wait for the class descriptions to come out. I have made that weekend a "girls weekend" with my now 10-year old since I have lots of weekends with my 12-year old since she has been in comp dance the past 7 years (this is the first year she's not because of a knee injury).

Have fun.

Thanks for the input! Looks like I can't go wrong whatever I decide.

I take mainly classes. The product if usually worth more than the class fee.

I look for something where I'll learn a new technique or work with a new product and I'll also sometimes take on because I love the product line.

I love Basic Grey papers so I always take the Latest & Greatest class that Shelby has even though her voice annoys me, lol!

And they've added a day of classes this year. Thursdays used to just be an all day album class and then the preview crop. Now they have a preview crop Wednesday afternoon and a full schedule of classes for Thursday.

I do buy a few things at the vendor faire but I also note items that I'm interested in and then buy them online later.

Registration is Wednesday the 21st. Or if you've been before they send a link to register the day before.

:cool1: Thanks so much for posting this! I didn't realize they ahd added days. I could do the Wed crop, classes Thursday and shop Friday!!! I am so excited!!! Off to check it out in detail!

Maybe we'll finally meet!

I'll be there Thursday during the day for classes - it works out well for me that week as my daughter will be at daycamp in Valley Forge!

My plan for Thursday is:

9:50 - 10:50 Latest & Greatest with Basic Grey
11:10 - 12:10 Live in the Moment
12:30 - 1:30 More 7 Minute Cards
1:50 - 2:50 Fast n Furious 2
3:10 - 4:10 Top Techniques for Tantalizing Cards

I had printed out the list of classes a week ago and now just went back on the site.

The Vendor Faire will be open Thursday too!!!!!!

I think I'll nix that last card classes and go shopping then instead!

It would surely be less crowded on Thursday! I sure wish it wasn't so darn far from here!

Has anyone been to Boxer Palooza? Is that a good class?

I think you are right LindaBabe. I would think shop on Thurs and classes Friday.

I did it last year. Lots of give aways, a big overview of stuff she sells...

Yes, I am doing the 11:10 Friday class - it's not a class at all though. She gives you tons of product and talks about each and gives you usage ideas.
Just last month I found the bottle of buttons (well over a hundred) she gave out hidden under the edge of the liner of my trunk, lol. I had so much stuff I never even missed them.

OMG, I just looked up the info and that is the weekend Dh is taking the girls camping (I dont). Wonder what I can do to keep busy? :lmao:
