civil service exam

I am scheduled to take a city govt. level civil service exam later this month...is there some sort of study guide available or is it all common sense? My mom took one decades ago and says that it is all common sense. I'm not going to get extra points for being a veteran so I need to score as high as possible.

I took the federal one years ago and it's not so much common sense as basic knowledge. Simple grammar, math, english from what I remember. I did very well on it if I do say so myself. My mom failed it about 20 years ago but my dad says it's because she didn't really want to go to work. She did it so she could say she tried.

check your local library they may have study guides. they also sell study guides on amazon.
