After several Disney only vacations, we will be also be visiting Universal this time around! :yay: We are going in February (yes, President's week) with our 3 boys 9, 6, and almost 5. We will be splitting our stay 4 nights at Disney and 4 nights at the Royal Pacific. Reading all of your posts sold me on staying on-site!

The City Walk restauants - do we need to make advance reservations or are they walk in? If you need reservations, is that something we do now or when we check in? I think we are interested in Hard Rock, Nascar, or NBA - along those lines. How are those restaurants? We're not looking for anything fancy, more atmosphere, fun, etc.

Also, should I find out now if the hotel is having a character meal during our stay or could we just arrange that when we get there?

I'm going to keep reading your tips about the parks, I'm sure I'll be back with those questions soon. Thanks for any info!

The majority of resturants at citywalk are all about atmosphere, and you dont need reservations. The food at the places you named are all about the same, good, but nothing spectacular. What hotel are you staying at? I highly recommend trying some of the resturants in the parks such as Mythos in IOA and Lombardos in USF. Also Mama Dellas at Portofino Bay is my all time fav. That one you will need reservations for. As far as characters....ehhhh.....Confiscos is about the only place I know and that is in IOa, and you can usually check with the front desk when you check in to see what they offer.

if you're staying onsite, showing your hotel key will get you a priority seating. it doesn't mean you walk right in, but you'll be in line for the next available table before walk-ins. you can also arrange PS's at the hotel. there is a dining kiosk in citywalk, to the right after you enter US, and near the bridge towards the hulk in IOA as well. all of the citywalk restaurants (with the exception of emeril's) are more atmosphere based rather than fancy. it's about good, basic, family-oriented menus. have a great time.

also recommend the kitchen at the HRH...good comfort food and a great area for kids to hang out. you can ride the water taxi from RPR or city walk. eight days, wow, i'm jealous!

Wow you are going to have fun.

Hard Rock is good as usual. NBA City is fantastic..you will love the food there and great sports atmosphere as well. Nascar, we have only walked through a couple times but the food looked and smelled delicious.

It is fun to have the volcano nachos at margaritaville while sitting on the deck and people watching.

Sometimes the restaurants can get very busy, so don't count on your room card to get you in any faster, because lots of other people will also have room cards. Never hurts to make reservations, just call the number you used to make your room reservation and they can connect you, or give you the numbers for dining reservations.

Your family will love Universal/IOA, ours did and still do. In fact the Universal parks remain the kids favorites..lol and they are all mid 20's now. They were your kids ages when we started taking them to Orlando for vacations.
