CityPass - any feedback?

So we have 4 park days planned in December. We were going to do 4 day hoppers but the couple going with us expressed an interest in LegoLand and want to go with a kid (they have none of their own).

It looks like the City Pass through Park Savers would cost only slightly more than a 4 day hopper and a LOT less than a 3 day hopper and a 1 day Legoland pass.

Has anyone done this? Are there pitfalls I might be missing? Is the Disney portion actually a hopper?

Unless it's changed, it's still a 3 day park hopper. And if you have a young one who's even a little interested in Lego, then Legoland will be a big hit. As an adult i wasn't too impressed with the attraction, but the kids thought they were great - especially the technic coaster (which is a lot like Goofy's Sky School). What I thought was cool was the MiniLand. That's where they build all of the mini sets, including some incredible Star Wars scenes.

BTW, if you can swing it and catch Legoland on anything but a weekend or the normal Christmas vacation, you might be able to get good prices on the Legoland Hotel. To me, that really made our trip to Legoland great.

It was more than three years ago, but yeah it's a real three day park hopper. Once your CityPASS card is scanned, you will be issued a paper Disneyland ticket. The ticket will specifically note CITYPASS, that it's for 3 days, when it expires (13 days), and that one Magic Morning is included. Once you have that paper ticket, your original CityPASS card is no longer needed to visit Disneyland.

I would note that you could buy it online from SeaWorld and get a second day there. It would require that it be used first at SeaWorld to get the extra day.

We did Legoland once but the kids were 1 and 13 which was not ideal. The little one is now 6 and that seems perfect. Our friends are people I work science-fiction cons with, so the Star Wars stuff is what I'm most excited to show them.

We're DVC owners, so we're staying at the Grand Californian, but yeah, the LegoLand hotel looks great. We'll be going in December, so the crowds will be higher than I like, but getting in at the Grand is tricky, so we took the dates we could get and worked around it.

We won't do SeaWorld at all.

Had you read the first post you'd have seen that I a) have a young child b) have been to LegoLand and know exactly what it is and c) was looking for feedback on CityPass, not the park itself. I found that post a bit snarky, sort of questioning the OP's choices and judgement. Saying that it may not be enjoyable without small kids is different than saying "enjoy a day at a real park".

There really are no pitfalls other than maybe losing the pass.

You can upgrade CityPass and still get 4 days at DLR. There should be an upgrade value for the 3 day hopper listed on the CityPass site. Also, since you're getting Knott's too, and it's not the far from GCH, it might be worth stopping in there for even a half day, just to check it out.

It doesn't come with Knott's. I don't believe there's any discount multi-site tickets for Disneyland except from CityPASS. Right now it's LegoLand and SeaWorld, along with a possible add-on of the San Diego Zoo. It used to be Universal, which is where we went in 2012.

If they're considering splitting up (family with young kids going to LegoLand), then perhaps getting CityPASS (if not going to LegoLand) makes little sense compared to just getting 4-day park hoppers if they're not using the SeaWorld portion.

If OP is only doing 2, it will save money, but it might be a better deal to research ticket only discounts for just the 2 you're doing. I know Legoland has a So Cal ticket offer, if the other couple is eligible for it, that might be an option. Also, ARES might have the CityPass at a discount.

I suppose there are some discount options for Disneyland. LegoLand is something like $97 and $93 for kids.

We used the 2012 version of CityPASS. My wife insisted on ordering it online, although shipping (by UPS) was free. That one included the Disneyland 3-day PH, SeaWorld, and Universal. San Diego Zoo or Safari Park was the only add-on.

I saw that Knott's is on the LA or San Diego GO Card. Costco sells them. They have no single-day deal for LegoLand California.

I'd say just get the CityPASS if doing three days at Disneyland and one at LegoLand.

We're all NorCal. We won't be splitting up, since the people who really want LegoLand are the childless couple. It's me, DH, Cupcake (6), and our 2 friends. I haven't found a better discount for 3 days of DL and 1 of LL, so I think we'll go with CityPass. It sounds like it's reputable. The difference between an adult 3 day hopper and CityPass is $47 at Park Savers, so it sounds like it's still the cheapest combo, even if we could get the SoCal discount. (The difference for a kid is $9.)

You're correct. Poor choice of words on my part. I am Disney-centric enough that there is Disney and Not Disney and so everything in the pass that isn't Disney feels like an add-on. It is, of course, actually part of the base package.
