When we left off last time, Poppy had just deemed his ride on Space Mountain to be his "adventurous" ride of the trip, since he was feeling some ill-effects from the space travel. While we waited for him to recuperate, I took a picture of James' Sorcerer cards. Now I see that it would've made a better picture if I'd turned them right-side-up. Doh!
The kids took off with DSiL and their cousin, while Gram, Poppy, Judy, and I walked up towards the New Fantasyland by way of the Teacups (aka the Mad Tea Party). But just "by way of" because none of us were crazy enough to go on those.
I knew that all of you would be interested to see the progress on the New Fantasyland construction, so I made sure to take some pictures. So, here you go -- New Fantasyland construction from back in June of 2012.
I think this new area is really going to be something when it's finished, don't you?
Poppy found a similarly-demeanored dwarf to pose with.
And Gram posed with a happier, although not "Happy", dwarf.
How about some more construction pictures?
It was a sea of strollers near Its a Small World. We navigated through them and made our way past. Even though IASM fit our ride criteria (or is it "criterion"? I can never get that right), of being sit-down and air conditioned, we were opting out. Our next ride was beyond.
We met up with the rest of our crew, and Lauren had gotten us Big Thunder Mountain fastpasses. Any idea what ride we were going on next?
Yes, the Haunted Mansion it was. Part-way through the queue I realized that we were weren't in the line that would go past the new interactive elements that they added to the queue. I thought, "Oh, thats all right. Ill get another chance later". But alas, we never got back.
The last time we went on this ride, a few years ago, James freaked out in the Stretching Room after some girls screamed, and Judy had to take him to the exit. This time, we told him that that was the scariest part, and that he'd be fine on the actual ride. He stuck it out, and ended up sitting between me and Judy.
I changed lenses and put on my new 50mm f/1.8 lens in hopes of getting some good shots in the dark. Its only drawback is that it isn't a zoom, so how the shots are framed will be determined by the distance of our doom buggy to the subject. I tested it out in the queue before we boarded our doom buggies.
Then got my chance to really try it out on the ride. I liked how this shot of the eyes turned out.
The dancing ghosts were having a ball. (Yes, that was a joke. But is it really, if you have to confirm it?)
This poor guy does not know what he's in for, does he?
I wish I had been able to get a less blurry picture of these busts, but I just couldn't hold the camera still enough.
Watch out for the hitchhiking ghosts!
Lauren and Marlene had a rider in-between them.
Ours was on the roof.
We all enjoyed our visit to the Haunted Mansion and James thought it was great. (We tried to tell him that the last time, but what're you going to do?)
As we made our way across Liberty Square, the marching band came by and I paused for a quick picture. I love that they're informal enough to wave.
It was now about 11:30, and we thought we'd get one more attraction in before lunch. Believe it or not, the Hall of Presidents fit the bill. It was sit-down and air-conditioned. Plus, I don't think that my kids had ever seen it, and I hadn't for many, many years. During our 2009 trip, there was no way we were going anywhere near the place since the day we were at the Magic Kingdom was also the day they were introducing the new animatronic Obama. (Now now....no jokes asking which one they put in the White House.)
That's it for the pictures, since cameras aren't allowed during the presentation. The Presidents have to control their image apparently and don't want a bunch of cell phone pics showing up on social media. Which was a bummer because I saw Zachary Taylor giving an eye-roll to "W" that would've surely gone viral if I'd have been able to capture it. Oh well.
During the presentation, I heard a quote that immediately made me think of my good DIS-friend Dan, FauntleroyFan07. It was by Andrew Jackson and he said something like, "It is a poor mind indeed which can't think of at least two ways to spell a word." I had to laugh. Dan, you just might have what it takes to be President one day!
The other observation I had that I thought was kind of funny was how the Presidents all nod when they're introduced. Apparently, that's what you do when you're an animatronic former-President being introduced. But with 44 of them, it got to be a little repetitive. I was just dying for one of them to switch it up with a wave or a hearty "Yo!".
Anyway, the Hall of Presidents got checked off the list and now we don't have to feel bad if we skip it for another Presidential term or two.
Up next: Lunch at Pecos Bill's, and more Sorcerer's of the Magic Kingdom
