citrus slice ornaments you can make at home look like stained glass

Looks very similar to dehydrating citrus slices. I have done that and they have come out dry enough to use as ornaments on a tree. I would give it a try....and I'd bet they would be pretty! :thumbsup2

those are so pretty ! I bet they smell wonderful too.... they would be really nice ornaments for an outside tree too. :goodvibes

I think the birds might try to eat them outside. what do you think?
Maybe not birds but I think that other critters might go for them.

I might just make some of these and those applesauce cinnamon ornaments for a simple kitchen tree. With white lights and some tin cookie cutters on ribbon for bling I bet this would look really nice.

I do an old fashioned, home made Christmas tree in the family room and think I will try some of these. I only wish they would give more detail when they print these recipes. Like how thin is thin? thinnnish or paper thin? 1/8 or 1/4 th of an inch?
do you have to put the ribbon in before drying to make the hole or after? and if after does it break the dried membrane when you put it thru?

You could hang them outside but remember they would rehydrate with the morning dew or rain so it would be just like hanging citrus slices on your tree.

I bet this project would make your house smell yummy!!

I am always afraid of making ornaments from food items, since we store our Christmas tree and ornaments in the attic over the year and would hate to bring any critters in from the outside that chew through our storage tubs to get to the foodies.

Sounds really pretty though, we make an ornament every year....need to find something for this year.

DRIED CITRUS ORNAMENTS

Take citrus fruits, such as oranges and lemons, and slice in ¼ inch thick rounds. Place them on a cookie sheet and put them in an oven on the lowest setting. Leave the oven door slightly ajar. It will take several hours, and you should check them and flip them periodically with a spatula. When they become dry and slightly rubbery, they are done.

The citrus slices will look like slices of sun and be translucent. Poke a hole with a wire to put a wire ornament hanger on them and hang them from your tree. If you like, you can brush them with clear glue and sprinkle a pinch of glitter on them to make them sparkle. Don't coat them with glitter, because it will obscure the natural effect. The lights of the tree shining through the translucent dry fruits and shimmering on the glitter will make them glow like little slices of sunshine.
