Hello dis friends! Could someone please advise about dining at Citricos with a 12 yr old? He's not a picky eater but is it too over the top for a child? I am torn between narcoossees and citricos. Any help?

Citricos is one of the fancier signature restaurants in my opinion. While people do bring children, I find it to be a popular place for couples. I'm not sure what the children's menu is offering, but I'm hesitant to say he would enjoy the regular menu - unless he has advanced tastes for his age! :goodvibes I will say that the meal can last a very long time. Last time we were there our meal lasted 2.5 hours.

We've dined at Citricos during out last two Grand Gatherings and my younger cousins have both done fine. The 14 year old typically orders off of the kids menu as she's a very picky eater but her 11 year old brother always orders off of the regular menu. As for the length of the meal, we've never had an issue with it being too long for them but with 12 of us at the table, its usually a pretty entertaining meal.

Depending on how picky the child is, I would say neither restaurant would offer the kind of food that would appeal to an extremely picky child unless the child orders off the children's menu, assuming there is one.

If he can sit for a long meal, you should be ok. There's no extra entertainment though, Citricos is purely about the food and the eating experience. The atmosphere is more refined than Narcoossee's, which has a very casual feel to it. I don't find it stuffy or uncomfortable in Citricos though, they're very pleasant and welcoming.

I don't think it's 'over the top'...so the main issue is really just can the kid can handle a 2 hour meal.

FWIW, I think Citricos is MUCH better than Narcoossee's in terms of food and service.

totally agree with this post!! Citricos is such a great experience/meal...if he can get through a slowly paced awesome meal then you should defiintely take him. Check out their menu on the dining page first to make sure there is something that he'll like!

We ate there twice in late August with our 11 year old DD. She ate off the children's menu. If you haven't already, I would check the GF webpage at the Disney World site. It has pdfs of the different menus. I would provide the link, but I don't know if it's allowed on this forum. Also, there seemed to be quite a few families with children when we ate.

We were there in June and there were several family groups 8-10 people around us with children infants to teens. As long as your child doesn't mind sitting through the meal of an hour - an hour and a half then you should be fine.

There are some pictures of our meals if you are concerned about the food on my blog here.

Hope it helps some. :)

I agree with the other posters about duration of the meal being the key issue with kids. If you remain at all concerned, just select another option where the meal service is faster. There are many other and wonderful options in addition to Citricos.

Have a great vacation!

Thanks to all! I originally had a ressie for Narccoossee and cancelled it for Citricos due to the poor reviews I have read about Narccoossees. Citricos seems to have raving reviews. We are having just one signature dinner and I want it to be nice!

Definitely do Citricos. My then 8 and now 9 year olds love Citricos. It is their favorite restaurant on property.

Citricos is my kids (17 and 12) favorite restaurant. We always go at least once on each trip. A few years ago, our trip was unexpectedly extended one day, so we had to find another ADR for the extra day; both girls wanted to go to Citricos (even though we had already been there once during the trip).

When I am there with them, we all order the roast chicken. It is delicious!

In my opinion, Citricos is good for any age as long as they can be patient through a long meal as others have stated. It is fancy, but comfortable and not stuffy. The food is wonderful, but pretty approachable even for picky eaters. Above all, the service is wonderful. DH and I were eating there late, I think we had a 9pm seating, and saw a couple with 2 little girls nearby. By halfway through the meal, the little girls were asleep, but the servers had put together 2 chairs for each to nap in. It was so cute!

We ate at Citricos last year with my DDs then 13 and 8. We also had a 5yo in our party. We had a larger party and our dinner did not feel overly long and they certainly did not rush us by any means.
My older DD has food allergies and is a picky eater. They made her an adult size portion of pasta with a delicious marinara (which is what she chose) but the chef offered her to make pretty much anything she would want. They were very accomodating to my girls' tastes and treated them like princesses.
We had a lovely dinner and I would go back to Citricos any time!
