Citi ThankYou Points for Disney Vacation

I've had a Citi ThankYou Preferred card for many years, and it tends to be the credit card we use for big purchases that we want to collect points for (we pay these purchases off and don't carry a balance). Until recently, we were mostly using our ThankYou Points for Amazon purchases for the convenience of doing so, but I know that's not the most effective way to use them and am wondering if there's a way they can be put to use towards the Disney World vacation we're saving up for in July 2022?

I don't see Disney in the list of gift cards for redemption, nor do I see Southwest (the airline we are most likely going to be flying with). There is a Landry's giftcard if we end up eating at T-Rex or Yak and Yeti while there, but that could be risky if we don't. There's a number of gift cards to places that sell Disney giftcards (eg, Target), but not sure if I'd be able to use a giftcard to buy a different giftcard? Any other thoughts on using ThankYou Points towards a Disney vacation or on the card/rewards program in general?

Are any third party ticket sellers available? I was reading about how some are allowed with Capital One, I'm just not as sure with Citi.

Might want to post on the Credit Card thread as well. Lots there are familiar with how a lot of different cards work.

I've been using my Citi Points to buy Target gift cards. Then I use them for my everyday purchases there and use the cash I would have spent on that stuff for Disney GCs instead.
Plus I use my redcard for the 5% savings on them too.

I'll do this, thank you! I'm not sure about third-party sellers, is this an option if I booked my tickets and resort stay together (we're staying on property and used a TA to book the package)?

That might be my best bet...I do a lot of basic household needs shopping at Target, so maybe I'll just convert the ThankYou points into Target GC to use for those purchases and then transfer the amount that I "saved" into my vacation fund for use buying Disney GCs later (I am also using my Redcard for 5% off).

As you note, redeeming for gift cards is not optimal. If you have to fly to Disney and are near an airport that has Jet Blue, look into transferring your points to them as a travel partner, and using Jet Blue points for the flights. Generally, way more value that way.

Thanks, I'll check out if Jet Blue has direct flights to Orlando. I've never flown Jet Blue before, so hadn't even considered that airline.

If you find that JB is viable option, one of you will have to sign up for their FF program in order to generate a number that you can link to your Citi account for the transfer. I just transferred some miles to Delta from my Amex Membership Rewards today to book some flights and got way more value than the rates on redeeming for gcs.
