Whats your opinion on seeing this show with 8 and 7 yo boys? Do you think it will keep their interest or will they be bored? I would love to see it but want it to be fun for all. What do you think?
My dad and I took my just turned 2 yr old son last year. Dad was trying to place a bet as to how long my son would sit in his seat. Well he made it through the entire show (~1:45) and we almost forgot he was with us! There is something constantly going on (except for little breaks between scenes now and then, but often the clowns come out). Your sons should love it-the acrobats are amazing, and they will probably love the guys jumping/climbing (looks so easy when they do it) up the walls. Hope they dont get any ideas!
I have only seen this show once, Varakai is coming to my hometown in 2months. If you have never seen the show and even if you have on tv, nothing will compare to what you see in person. My wife and i came out of the show and just looked at each other for about 5 min wondering what we just saw. Ages 7 and 8 they will love it. Especially when they see the young girls about Their age. Enjoy Enjoy
I was bored out of my mind and frightened half to death by it. Make sure your kids aren't afraid of clowns before going (I am which is why I was scared.) Then again I saw it in Montreal and it was in French, and I only understood half of what it was about.
Definitely take them. We took our 3 Daughters (8, 6, and 4) to a Cirque show in Philly this past Fall (leaving our 2-year old Son at home) and they loved it. Like nothing they have ever seen, so they will be captivated.
My two kids were each a year younger than yours when we saw it last Nov. They are still talking about it. They pointed out performers that I would have missed because there is just so much happening throughout the show. Definitely worth going.
I've seen Dralion besides La Nouba. La Nouba is definitely more kid-friendly. The clowns appear during the whole thing and it's much funnier. I really enjoyed it. It was great. However, it is all in French, so you won't know a single thing they're saying. But that's okay. You hardly even notice.
IMHO it is one of the best shows I have ever seen and my 9 yo cousin LOVED it even more than me!!! As one poster mentioned if the kids are afraid of clowns...maybe not the best choice lol!
Actually, the language is usually 'Cirquish'. No-one understands it - I believe it's meant to be kind of universal..... like how we all 'get' the atmosphere from the songs even without understanding the words. I find that explaining to my DD that she isn't *supposed* to understand the words helps - there is just so much going on for her to watch and listen to that it all works out. Beyond Disney, my dream is to make a Cirque-trip to Vegas to see all of the permanent shows there.
The soundtracks to all Cirque du Soleil shows feature music which uses "phonetic sentence strings" instead of actual words. According to Parisien, "use of real words, blocks the possibility of imagination." Parisien believes that this signature lack of a language, like the show's open-ended theme, leaves room for audience interpretation and lends Cirque a universal appeal.
A University of Ohio doctoral student researching the theatre arts once went undercover to study Cirque du Soleil. While working with the performers, she learned about the language of Cirque, or what the performers refer to as "Cirquish." The performers speak a sort of gibberish that is a blend of languages and sounds. What seems like a foreign language to an outsider is often a creation of the performer.
I go every year when they come to Philadelphia. The last two years I took my boys my one son was 3 and my other was 6 they are now 4 and 7 and I will be taking them this time as well. THEY LOVE IT. Although this year we are just doing Disney cause I can't afford it twice in the same year for all of us.
Pezpam - that was fascinating. My family loves Cirque & all of us want to do the Vegas tour of Cirque shows also.
I took my son the first time at 10. He loved it. We had to go back the next trip becuase he loved it so much. Now he's 16 & still wants to go every trip.
Well based on all your great responses I went ahead and got some great seats this morning! I am a little surprised that fifth row front and center were still available a month out, I thought we would end up being stuck in the far back at this point! Oh well...lucky for me!
