I just wanted to know if going to Cirque du Soleil was a good evening event and if it would be suitable for an 8 year old.
Also how long in advance would you have to book the tickets?

Thanks

Tana

It is difficult to respond to a question that can be subjective.
BUT, I loved it, there were many children( really little ones even) in the audience and they were completely spellbound. It is an amazing show. To me, it was worth every penny.
I would book it ASAP.
They frequently show Circ (one show or another) on TV, sorry that I don't have the listings or channel, but, it seems to be on every night. Even if it is not the show you will see at Disney, it will give you an idea of the show.
I walked away saying, " No human can do that!!!". It is truly amazing.

She is 11, but has been going to the ones in Vegas since she was eithre 7 or 8 - loves it. Of course, she liked Blue Man Group as well...she is very into the performance arts. I'd give it a try...

It's a great show and the 8-yr old will surely love it. That said, I would not skip one of the "free" shows like Illuminations and Fantasmic to see Cirque. My kids are old hands at WDW so adding Cirque to the activities was a surprise perk for them this past Spring Break. They were mesmerized - we all were. BTW, DS was 14 and DD was 12.

I've seen it twice, May of 2002 and May of 2003. It is truly an event. I have been in the upper section, fifth row up from the middle aisle, just to the right of center stage, on both ocassions. Great seats. Most new people think they should sit closer to the stage. But there is some action/play acting on the middle aisle that you miss if you are below it. The ealier you book the show, the better your seats. They are assigned when you reserve. Cirque has two levels of prices: Preferred seats (center section) and regular (left and right of center). My seats were just to the right of the preferred section and were great. I would not pay the additional $10.00 myself.

In May 2002, we took a five year old with us. He was mesmorized and happier than I saw him at anything else that week.

My standard recommendation is for people to go our and rent or buy one of the Cirque performances (Quidam, Saltimbanco, and Dralion are good comparisons). Watch it with your family. You'll probably have one of three reactions: 1) Your jaws drop and everyone says "Let's go!" or 2) You'll think is was "OK" or 3) You'll say "This is the stupidest thing I've ever seen."

If you're a #1 family, buy the tickets. If you're a #2 or #3, then save your money. Our family loves Cirque.

Definitely watch it on t.v. first or on a tape. We did go see Cirque - DH and me. We discovered that we are not Cirque people, but I would not discourage anyone else from going to see it. The acrobatics are amazing. For us, however, the show was too long. And it was expensive. I would rather just watch it on t.v. and save my money. I agree with the poster who had the 1, 2, 3 method for determining whether or not to go. Good idea.

We love the Cirque shows. We have seen them in Vegas and Orlando.

Very entertaining. I think you will all love it!!

I would go!

Dh and I have been twice, two years in a row. I wanted to see it again, there are just somethings you miss the first time. It is awesome!! And while watching it on tv gives you an idea of what it's about, (and it is hard to explain to others) it is definitely not the same as seeing it in person. I don't watch the shows on tv 'cause it's just not the same.

If you have the money for the tickets, give it a try.

I agree that it's not the same to watch it on tv as it is in "real life." It's much more amazing to see live!!! But, I do think watching a vidoe would be a good way to judge if you might be interested.

I haven't seen the 90 minute show in Disney, but I just paid $100. a ticket to see a 2 1/2 hour show in NYC -- and it was superb!! The time FLEW!!!!

If you watch a tape a seem somewhat interested, I think you will enjoy it! I would defintiely go see another show in DIsney after seeing the Varekai show in New York.

HTH!

I loved the show - it was amazing - definately worth it for me.

My DD8 was bored, thought it was weird - eventually fell asleep - I mean unconcsious asleep.... when the show was over I couldn't wake her up - she was blocking the row from exiting - people around me were all laughing - a nice guy - about 18 - picked her up for me and carried her out the the hallway.. LOL

For her it was a waste of money - she just wanted to go to Disney Quest - now when she is bad I threaten to take her to Cirque and she says "Nooooooooooo"

>>^..^<<

Disnee Dad says................................... Your daughter is very wise. Cirque serves no point. A bunch of people who think they are animals? Flop around for what, a paycheck? Better to pay them with food.
Race Horses have far better medical than I will ever see, and circus animals get nearly the same.
The great paradox is . saving these animals is evil, so we let them go and die, and that is good for nature??
I think a circus is much better than a rat race.

I fought DW about going for several years. She finally just bought the tickets and said we were going. It was amazing to me. A very unique experience. We have since been back once and I could see it again.

I can see why some think it is a was a waste. If it is my first time to WDW then I would say no. Too many other things to do!

My DD10 loved it and so did I. I know that my DH and DS11 would not have liked it very much. They stayed at Quest for the evening!

The night we were there in June it was sold out.
