Cingular Cel Phone Service Down The Mexican Riviera?

Did anyone bring a Cingular cel phone and get service off the coast or inport?

DD had bars showing that there was service in Cozumel but she had the wrong type of phone to make calls. When I checked with my local Cingular Store, they said a TRI-BAND phone was required in Mexico. According to my rate plan, Mexico is included in Cingular Nation minutes.

My Cingular service was unavailable in Mexico and at sea.

I have Cingular and did pick up a signal in all the Mexician riviera ports. I can't remember the name that came up on my phone, but it wasn't Cingular. I didn't use it to make/receive calls, just brought it off in port, just in case.

We have Cingular and I am sorry to say that my kids phones worked in every port on our repo cruise. DD talked to her bf, DS talked to his gf. Don't want to tell you how much the bill was! They had no trouble getting through in the ports.....calling in or calling out. Just be sure you activate it if you want to use it before you go.

I have Verizon and had no signal after San Diego. (HI, Lori. Don't ya' just miss the relaxin' and having someone else make the beds?) My DH used to travel in Europe when we had Cingular and he said you have to have a certain phone that is set up to be out of the country.

DebbiH, what model phone do your kids have? I'm thinking about getting DD a new phone sometime in the next year or so and would like to get one that would work in Mexico and Europe.

What phone and what plan to you have with cingular. We are on the repo cruise and I have cingular. I want to be able to use my phone in port.

We go to Mexico 3 weeks a year. You can use Cingular if you call and tell them that you want international calling. It will cost you $3.50 a month but you can cancel anytime. They will tell you that the nationwide program will cover the cost but it doesn't. You will be charged around $2.50 a minute which is much better than trying to find a phone that will take a phone card. Also make sure to dail 001 then area code then number to reach the states.
