Thinking of trying this on the next trip because we will be using the dining plan. Eating in the castle sounds nice-but is the food/enviornment worth it if not doing the character breakfast? It will be me, DH and son 9.
If so, which would you do, lunch or dinner?

Will it still be the pricesses and price charming? I would book dinner if that was the case. My son would be highly chagrined if I took him to lunch at the castle and it was all princesses.

We will be there for ,lunch on June 14th - my DD's 6th birthday! Cinderella will be there but I dont know if the Prince will. I think that it will be the same characters as breakfast. Of course, they dont promise ANYTHING when you call  but I am sure that Cindy will be there.

We have a PS at the 1900 Park Fare for dinner and Cindy and Charming and the mice and the Fairy Godmother are supposed to be there - maybe try for that one to make DS happy as well!!

Actually I do not want to take him to a character meal that has all of the girly characters. He would die of embarassment both from the attention from the princesses and just the fact that he is a 9 year old boy! Same thing if I tried to take him to CP to dine with Pooh. He is way to old for that. Darn they need a boys character meal! So far we are already going to do Donald's, Sci fi and Chef Mickey's as well as LTT. I am debating on adding this one, Concourse Steak House, Hollywood and Vine, and Coral Reef since he loves fish We might still book this for one night for dinner though. How is the food?

We went to CRT for lunch back in 2001--it was wonderful. So nice to be in out of the heat/crowds, and great view from the windows. I thought the food was great then, but even better was the relaxing meal and the fact that it's a pretty small restaurant, so it was quiet and service was good. Of course, that was 4 years ago!
BTW, why are all my favorite restaurants being charactered to death? I have kids, but I would like some breaks from the characters! :confused3

I am also wishing they'd have a boy's themed character meal.
But I have a boy and I can vouch for two character meals that he enjoyed the most. That would be Donald's breakfast... and 1900 Park Fare for dinner because there was (and I quote) a BOY there (ahem, that would be prince charming). He was so happy to finally be able to get to take a picture with a BOY character at one of the character meals (besides Mickey and Donald ofcourse) LOL He'd have been way happier if it was Buzz or Woody or something though. But Prince Charming was good enough at the time. LOL

We have eaten dinner in the castle on both of our previous trips, and we really liked the food. I'd vote for dinner.

If seeing Cindy is not a must, although she sometimes greet guests when they arrive, I'd go for dinner...more choices on the menu. Lunch will have a limited menu. Plus you can get the chocolate slipper for dessert!

Our PS'S are already made, and we will also see PCharming at 1900 PF!

I would definitely do dinner at the castle. You will do very well with the dining plan there. Sit back and cool off and enjoy the wonderful atomsphere.
The castle is just the trademark of WDW. We had dinner there 3 years ago and enjoyed it very much. Cinderella was in the lobby, but you can just pass over her if you are not into the characters and head upstairs when your royal family is announced. Enjoy.
