Cindy Sheehan Arrested at Capitol

I appreciated Bush's call for new research into renewable energy sources. Now he needs to put his money where his mouth is.

And again, it's important to point out every President over the last 30 years-Dem and GOP has made these statements. And they've all allocated money for it. The question is how much money, and will their be a more formal plan, not just throwing money at it.

My point is, Clinton did nothing substantial in 8 years regarding alternative energy, and now we're demanding this of Bush. In both cases, the President can't do it all. Where are real proposals from the other party, in this case the Dems? Have they presented a plan for renewable energy? Have they presented a plan for Health Care? Have they presented a plan for Social Security? No, no, and no.

Do you people ever get it right? Her "banner" was the t-shirt she was wearing that had “2,245 Dead — How Many More??” on it. No banner, it was a t-shirt.

Mrs. Sheehan made one mistake. She should've waited until 10 or 15 minutes into Bush's first 31 minutes of talking about anyone's union, but our own.

People only get it as right as the media does. Imagine that - I was watching ABC and CNN last night and both initially reported that it was a banner. Of course they can only report what they've heard - no need to actually wait and check facts - another channel might get the story first and then it wouldn't be breaking news.

I had really hoped that President Clinton would have done more with alternate energy, and I complained about his efforts as well. No one gets a free pass for not doing enough, and one past President’s inaction does not excuse any current Administration. I mean, talk about using the lowest common denominator to make an point. Is that what we want from our elected officials? Just do as much as the guy before you and you’re in the clear? Please……

Now President Bush stated that energy conservation and finding renewable sources of energy are now a matter of national security. He said it, now back it up. Another thing, President Clinton had a weird thing about balancing the budget and actually vetoing spending bills. So-called fiscally conservative Republican President Bush has never, ever vetoed one spending bill. He “throws money” at every other whim, so why not throw it at finding alternate energy sources as well? You’re right the President can’t do it all, but when the President and the Congress are run by one party, obviously, the majority of the blame for inefficient policy making and reckless spending falls with the majority party. You’re living in a bubble if you somehow think that the Republicans are still the fiscally responsible alternative to the Dems…

FYI- Bush “41” vetoed 44 bills in his one term in office. His successor, Bill Clinton, vetoed 37 bills, Reagan vetoed 78, Carter 31, Ford 66, and Nixon vetoed 43 bills.

Wow! The "compassionate conservatism" here just truly touches my heart. :rotfl: If I lost a child to Bush's idiotic war of choice, wearing a t-shirt in protest would probably be the least of what I would do.

The only thing bad about this is the fact that it takes away from the hypocrisy that most are too blind to have seen in Shrub's speech last night. My personal favorite was in chastising congress to live by an ethical code...shortly before walking out of the chamber with Tom Delay. :rotfl2: Then there was the talk about how important education was...just a few days removed from his Repugnican congress slashing the Pell Grant program and making it harder for poor kids to get to college.

Ahhh...Why do I even bother. You folks would much rather just talk about wacky Cindy and how lucky she was to have her son killed so she could use it for political advantage.

My friend, wvrery served proudly in America's armed forces...what exactly did you do to be able to be so glib and ask people to go anywhere?

Wow...Been here for all of 21 posts and less than a month, and you already feel at-home enough to tell a member of 6+ years that they should leave? :rotfl:

Thanks, but I think I'll pass.

So did I, so I think you would be better of minding your own business rather than making presumptions, don't you think?

I had the same reaction as moparmuscle when I read wvrery's post. Lots of twisted statements in that post. And I don't remember reading anyone was happy her son died.

I supported my DH and continued raising our kids while DH served in Iraq. He saw the changes that are taking place over there, first-hand.

Cindy knew what she was doing by wearing that shirt, plain and simple. She really needs some counseling, imho.

It is funny when somebody is anti war , they need conselling , and the pro war dont :confused3

It is not because she is anti-war that she needs counseling. It is because of the way she is dealing with her loss. She does not seem to be dealing with it at all. She is publicly crying for help time and time again. I assume the family that was behind Laura last night and most others that have lost family members are in counseling. Nothing wrong with it.

Oh, please...How many people here have stated that she was just craving the publicity ? How many that she was just focused on herself and nothing else ? I didn't say anybody was happy that her son died. I said that people were basically saying that she must be happy about it, since it gave her all these wonderful opportunities for publicity. If there is anything "twisted" that I can straighten out for you, by all means, point it out.

Did he also see the weapons that Saddam was hiding ? I hear we're still looking for those. Did he find any of those mobile chemical weapons labs ? How about the nuclear program that was such a threat...did he see it too ?

Sorry...just seeing some change for the better isn't enough of an excuse for 2400+ dead...and rising.

Some people turn into sheep in her situation, refusing to believe that their loved one died for anything but the noblest of causes, despite all evidence to the contrary. Others rightly question why - or whether - that death was necessary. Sometimes, there can be no doubt, it is necessary. Other times, not so much. Mrs. Sheehan has decided that she doesn't believe it was, and isn't shy about standing up and saying so. Agree with her methods or not, there is something distinctly courageous about that.

Did you happen to hear President Bush say over and over again the reasons for going to war? You didn't want to hear it. You wanted to latch on to one point, and take a simpleton's view of the world. You people are so transparent. If stockpiles of weapons were found, you would have shifted to another form of criticism. But it's fine with me, even ungrateful citizens are benefiting by the actions of President Bush.

Actually I cannot tell you exactly what my DH saw and did. I assure you he saw and knows stuff that you do not. ;)

It seems that , for people who are pro war , Miss Sheean is or in need of psychiatric help , or conselling , or she is apuppet in the hands of the antichrist.

It is impossible for them to consider that this women might have put her grief to work for someting bigger than her. That she might have decided that something positive must come out of the death of her child , that it is possible to dedicate your self for peace. It think it is far more positive and far more "christian" to do everything in your power to acheive peace.

For those who say that she is a dishonor to her son who died , I say that wanting peace and wanting to stop the killing is the most honorable thing you can do to honnor the life of someone. No , we dont know what Casey Sheean thought when he died , and far from to try to anylise his motives for going. I will , and no one but him, will ever know. But he went there with the information everybody had at the time : wmd and other reasons that we now know for sure were wrong. So yess , he died for something that he might have belived , but that was false. All other reasons were given after it was clear that the WMD where inexistant. ( and yess , Saddam was a Tyran , but a lot of other countries have tyrant who emprison and kill alot more of there citizen than Saddam does. And , no democraty is not spreading in the middle east : the new governement of Irak is a religious one that does not give " freedom" to everyone , and the Hamas in Palestine is far fom being a beacon of peace)

I feel bad for her I do, but she is taking it too far. Protests are one thing, but constantly throwing herself in the limelight just makes her look like a nut job.

Protests are one thing and getting into the limelight is a big part of it. Ask MLKjr. You only call her a nut bag because you disagree with her. If she were marching around the country doing the exact same thing, camping in front of Crawford, etc, etc. protesting Hillary Clinton, you'd have her over to your house for dinner every night.

It's not her, it's her message you have a problem with.

:rotfl: Sure...he's got plenty of reasons now. But when the threat was "imminent", before the invasion, all the talk was of weapons.

But that's ok...I understand that it must be hard for you to face the truth. The only "simpletons" I see - to use your term - are those that can't remember or can't be bothered with finding out what happened just before we invaded.

:rotfl: I don't recall anyone ising the exact term "wacky" either, so I guess you win yet again. :rotfl: Sadly, I was discussing people's general behavior towards her, not a specific comment. (Oh, and technicially, I said "lucky", not "happy"...so half a point off for nitpicking without picking all the nits)

Yes...it's a big secret that we found all those WMD's...The Bush administration just likes looking like blooming idiots, so they're hiding it from the world. :rotfl:

Either you're ignorant or less than honest. President Bush gave a whole series of speeches leading up to the war, and never once did he say Hussein huge piles of WMDs was the reason for going to war. Nice try to rewrite history.
