So the leaders of other countries dont think for themselves? America does not RUN the world.dcentity2000 said:

I live in the UK and I still have an opinion over Bush too - the worry is that his politics are affecting fellow human beings and even worse, affecting the politics in our own countries.
If America sneezes, Europe catches a cold as it were.

Its so funny, when a country screams USA help us, help us . We do. Then we get flack from other countries for helping or for not helping enough. I dont think people are ever happy no matter if we help or not. This will never change.
One thing you and I have in common is we do like Disney or we wouldnt be on the site. And for this I am happy.

toto2 said:I dont question what my governement did in this war because we did not participate in it. Canada thought that we should not go ank let the inspections continue. WEe are right now in Afganistant as a peacekeeping force, but did not participate in the invasion as well.
The USA being our very big next door neihbors , and being such a superpower , everything they do has some kind of impact on our life and the life of the much of the inhabitant of the planet. Canada posses alot of ressorces that could be of interrest for the USA ( energy , petrol etc) and Canada is very much stratégic , since we control the north of the continant and the St-Laurence river that cuts to the hart of the continent. The USA intervenes a lot into our National policies through its ambassador who regularly in the papers trying to imposse the american view on our policies. All this could prove problematic in the future.
Lastly , it is fascinating ! I am very interested in local , provincial , national and international politics. We do not live in a vacum , all alone in our country. What we do here in Montreal has impact all over the world. One of the biggest entertainement industry in the world , Le Cirque du Soleil, has it's head office five minutes by foot from my house. Capitain Kirk was born a few streets from my parents ! So you can imagine what impact on the world has a super power like the USA !
I found the discussion here on the DIS very often interesting , andexept for a few people , respectfull. Our politics here in Canada are not as decisive as there are in the USA , and it is fascinating to something like the word Liberal sudeenly become the worst dirty word in the world . We tend to find it quite amusing.
But if you go back about 3 - 4 months you would see that toto2 wrote in broken English, but one day it was perfect overnight. The English improved at the same time as our friend with the "fiance who was in Katrina" disappeared (banned?) from the interesting post. She also claimed to live in Canada, but seemed so into US politics.dcentity2000 said:toto2, your English is very good!
Don't we all wish...No massive wars in countries that did nothing to us or our allies...A booming economy...an actual surplus in the budget...kc10family said:And Clinton NEVER did anthing like that, he ALWAYS asked the counrty if it was ok with everyone if he did something in another counrty. Yeah...wasn't it awful when all we had to worry about was the president's zipper staying up ?

Mom2be said:While all you say is correct Charlie - Rich is also correct. Congress never declared WAR - therefore by the Consititution we are not at war. However we also haven't declared WAR since WWII - this trend of "Using maximum force" by Presidents worries me since it seems we no longer care with the Constitution says or doesn't say about war. The reason why the Constitution is written the way it is, I believe, is because our fonding fathers saw how easy it is for us to just go to war. Which is why the declaration has to be made through congress. I doubt that Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, or this "conflict" would have actually passed Congress if the Presidents had asked for a declaration of war - which is why they went for the easier option.

Maybe you missed the fact that the U.S. has not issued a declaration of war since WWII. The Constitution clearly grants the Congress the power to declare war, in Article 1, Section 8. Note that Article 1 makes no mention anywhere of the President or Executive Branch.charlie said:President Bush just attacked? He didnt try other means..right? (snip)

The founding fathers realized that we are often too fond of fighting and that the ability to declare war should not rest in the hands of a single individual. They felt that the Congress with its many members would be a better forum to debate and decide such crucial issues.
