Me (Cindy, according to the Disney Personality quiz) 40 something, Mom, vacation planner and financier. Not in great shape healthwise, but determined to have fun anyway. MBA with an artist’s soul, sentimental softy.

DH, (Al) 47 (he doesn’t care), gets on the plane when it’s time. Remodeling Contractor, award-winning homebrewer. (Where’s the beer?)

DD (Tink) 10, thinks she’s a preteen, pure Princess. Dancer, artist, soccer mid-Monster, brainiac, comedienne.

We had decided to hit MGM when it opened this morning of Monday 9/3, to try out the new rides before it got crowded and hot. Well, the crowd part worked, but not the hot! Our mornings were slowed down a little because Al had decided that he wanted ham, eggs, and biscuits for breakfast each morning, something we never do at home. But he cooked, so it was OK by me. We still managed to get to MGM about 9:15, and were able to ride RnR coaster twice (once with Fastpass), TOT once, once into Millionaire, and the Backstage Pass ride before we melted and decided to head back to the room at about noon. RnR is now Tink’s favorite ride, and we did it about five more times before we left. She always had to sit in the front row, too. We also did Millionaire another five or so times – all finishing in the top ten at different times, but never in the hot seat. Tink was actually in second place at the end of one show! She did get really mad at me once when I gave her a wrong answer, though. This has been said before, but start pressing your button really fast when you know the answer. It won’t register until they light up, this happens on about answer “C”.

One of Tink’s Must Do’s this trip was to go back to Disney Quest. The place made me ill last time, so it was decided that Al and Tink would do DQ, while I shopped a bit and then headed back to the room to do some laundry. Our goal was to spend a couple of hours at AK that afternoon prior to our 5:30 PS at Boma’s. We decided to take advantage of the boat ride to DD from OKW, and took a quick tour of the pool area on the way to the pier. OKW has a very pretty pier area, and I took a quick look in the stores while we waited for the ferry about 20 minutes. Now, this is a SLOW boat ride, it seemed more than the stated 20 minutes. It was nice, though, and we got a look at some of the other buildings at OKW. When we landed at the opposite end of DD from DQ at 1:30, we quickly decided that AK was not going to happen that day, and that I would bring the car back to pick up the family at 5 to go to Boma. We split, and I spent about an hour shopping before I realized that the car keys were still in Al’s pocket! I knew this wasn’t going to work, since he wouldn’t realize he had the keys either until it was too late. So I hiked over to DQ and got a 45 minute pass to go in and find them. It took 35 minutes! Boy, that place is overwhelming. I was right, Al hadn’t realized he still had the keys. Off to the bus stop, saw several All Stars busses and finally one for OKW. The bus ride was maybe five minutes long – not even time to cool off! Had time to do one load of laundry before I was off again.

The report on DQ was a thumbs up, even though they chose not to stand in line for any of the major attractions there, like Pirates. They both love the virtual roller coaster, so I think they did that several times. They had lunch at the Cheesecake Factory, I think I had a cookie for lunch at DD. After all, we were going to Boma! We got there in time, and waited maybe five minutes to be seated. Didn’t even get to look around, but did that later. The waiter was nice enough to bring us several tastes of some African wines we were thinking of trying, but we wound up ordering a California Chardonnay. Sorry, really didn’t like any of the samples. No tour of the buffet, but most of the dishes were labeled, and seemed to change frequently. Tink was not feeling adventurous, but I directed her to the meat section and she found plenty there. I tried so many things – loved the fish balls with salmon and mahi mahi and a wonderful sauce; the pork with sauce; the fresh mussels; the saffron rice; the gumbo type dish. I don’t know the real name for anything I ate! I think I made two trips, Al maybe four. He loved it, but was so miserable after that he’s not sure he wants to go back. Poor excuse, I say. At dessert time, Al went first, then Tink. Al got extras for me to try. Then Tink said, “Mom, let me get you something I know you’ll really like”, and came back with a plate for me with about six desserts on it! So we were sitting there with maybe 15 desserts on our table for the three of us. I managed a bite of most, and almost finished the Zebra Dome. I’m not sure what it’s made of – probably cream. It seems very light with almost a gel consistency, with a light coffee and chocolate flavor. Delicious, but probably more enjoyable when less stuffed. After dinner, we walked around the lodge a bit, and out to the Savannah viewing area just past the pool. The path to the viewing area passed right by the hot tub, I wouldn’t like that if staying there. We saw some giraffes and gazelles, and some interesting birds. It had rained while we were eating, but had stopped, so we decided that it might be a good night for Fantasmic!

We walked into MGM just as CM’s were saying, if you want a seat, you’d better go now!
We did, and got seats on the second row of the section just across the aisle from the reserved seating. No matter what, Tink likes to be in front, so we were. We tried to see this show during our first trip in 1999, but got rained out. There was no pre-show entertainment this time, unless you count doing the wave about 20 times, but we did get to see the show. It was great, worth the two year wait. And I think we sold the family behind us on DVC while we waited for the show to start.

Back to OKW and bed, and next comes Tuesday: Animal Kingdom and SAB.

but two weeks ago......did the Hollywood and vine and got into the reserved seats.......the seats were fabulous and we enjoyed it from a new seat.......thanks so much for your reports
