Cinderella Castle to be transformed for Christmas

Will the lights be up the week of Thanksgiving? We're going then and I'm so excited about seeing the World decorated for Christmas for the first time!

From the first post in this thread...

It's rumored that CM's have been notified that for the 2007 Holidays, Cinderella Castle will be transformed by adding hundreds of lights to its exterior. The installation of the lights is scheduled to begin in mid-September and will be completed sometimes in early to mid-November, just in time for the first MVMCP.

I love the cake castle althouth the first sight of it was shocking. I was married at WDW during the 25th anniversary. Thank goodness I didn't pay all those bucks to get pictures at the castle!

From WDW Guest Relations:

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party Returns -- For a quarter century Walt Disney World guests have been entertained and mesmerized by this time-honored tradition. This season, Magic Kingdom has added an extra night to the celebrated custom -- meaning there will be 19 evenings of holiday fun: Nov. 12, 15, 16, 25, 27, 29, 30 and Dec. 2, 4, 6, 7, 9, 11, 13, 14, 16, 18, 20, 21. Beginning at 7 p.m. (after regular park hours), guests with tickets to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party can enjoy the holiday splendor with lively stage shows and favorite holiday traditions.

Guests can enjoy festive surprises including additions to the holiday parade and an all-new Castle Light Show. Cinderella Castle is adorned with thousands of shimmering white lights, covering the turrets and towers like a glistening blanket of ice. The twinkling lights create an elegant wintry effect perfect for the seasonal celebration.

Lighting up the castle becomes a Dream Come True moment as Cinderella joins Mickey, Minnie and the gang for the nightly ceremony. Guests can also see Disney characters in holiday garb for meet-and-greets, and enjoy the dazzling "Holiday Wishes--Celebrate the Spirit of the Season," a memorable fireworks spectacle orchestrated to classic holiday melodies.

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party comes with a winter-weather forecast guests can count on -- a 100 percent chance of snow flurries on Main Street, U.S.A every night. And just in case the sight causes a chill: complimentary hot cocoa and cookies are served. Many popular Magic Kingdom attractions are open to guests.

Admission to the party requires a separate ticket. Tickets are $47.95 plus tax for ages 10/up and $40.95 plus tax for ages 3-9 (but with advance purchase, guests can save $7 per ticket for select dates). Note: Many party nights are sold out in advance. To purchase tickets, guests can call 407/W-DISNEY or visit disneyworld.com/holidays.

i really hope there isn't a crane in my pictures...this is my first visit to the mouse town, and i don't want to see a crane in my memories! Sept 21-30th

As said that Disneyland Paris does similar things with the castle, this year for the 15th, they have 15 different characters that light up which works quite well.

If anyone wants to see what that castle looks like, go to the link below and download "Show 74 - Video - Christmas in Paris". Make sure you download the video podcast and not the regular Show 74 podcast.

Enjoy!

Per a email about our MK wedding photos to take place on Oct 24:

Dear Rachel,

This message is to inform you that there are cranes scheduled to be located at various points surrounding Cinderella’s Castle from September through November. These cranes will be putting up Christmas lights and decorations on and around the castle.

Attached you will find a Question and Answer sheet which may help clarify any questions you may have about how your Magic Kingdom wedding portraits could be affected by these cranes.

Can you tell us what the Q&A sheet said? I'm going to MK for the first time in late Oct, and I'm sad to know my view of the castle is going to be obstructed in some manner. :(

I wonder if the lights will only be lit during MVMCP. We are going down to WDW Thanksgiving week and as we have done MVMCP for the past three years we were not planning on doing it again this year. We will be visiting the MK at least once and I am wondering if the lights will be on at other times also or just for the party.

From someone who started going to Disney in 1972.

You younsters are lucky.

You don't know what you missed!!!

I would love to see the Christmas lights and take the kids to Epcot to see all of the different Santa's:) Every year we drive thru different neighborhoods to see all the lights (we are Christmas junkies, all the decorations and lights). We have talked about about going Dec.'08.

My SIL and brother have gone down to Disney during Thanksgiving week. She said that they turn on the lights right after Thanksgiving and that it's the most magical and fun time that they have experienced there. So I would imagine you will see the lights on when you go during Thanksgiving week as well.

You should be excited! Our first holiday trip was in 1999 and we have been back after Thanksgiving almost every year after. Our first trip during the holidays will always be our favorite; it was so beautiful! :santa:

The crane arrived lastweek at the Castle, and The Osbourn lights are already going up. I was in the parks lastweek and saw this.
