Unions are terrible. Ford and GM are great examples, like one of the previous posters mentioned. Union leaders are known to be shadey. Teachers unions for example.... I have seen teacher union workers on the news picketing and boycotting. These people are denying children to their gov't education by refusing to teach. Most people, in the real world, would be fired for refusing to work. Unions "protect" these people though, so they don't have to deal w/ what the rest of us do- life.
It's nothing more than a Marxist concept. Socialism/communism does not work (ummm, Pol Pot, Stalin, Lenin?) That was caused the downfall of the Soviet Union.
The reason our country is a super power is because it is capitalist. Individuals here know that with hard work, and ambition, you can succeed. Why should someone who does well be punished? The person who comes up with an idea for any business or co (Disney, etc) and who took the initiative to start it should be rewarded. They're the ones who took the risk. I'm sick of them being made out to be the bad guys (big bad corporations.)
We have the freedom in this country to leave a job if we don't like it. If you aren't able to go to college, it doesn't mean you are destined to a life of poverty. My husband is uneducated (very smart, but not formally educated) and has done very well for us. He found something that he was able to succeed in and make it work. The point is, there are other options.
People these days have some strange sense of entitlement that my grandparent's generation did not. This will be the ultimate demise of this country.
No one is violating anyone's human rights. I don't see these people as being tortured or forced into anything. Comparing this to China is laughable.
