Cinderella and others arrested

Unions are terrible.

Do you have any understanding that without unions, you would be working six days a week, 12 hour days, and your children would likely have to be working as well? You would have no benefits to speak of. If you ever sit down to read a newspaper, you will learn that corporations are abhorred by so many people because the disparity between the wealthiest and poorest is continuing to expand. Unions want workers to get more of a share of what they bring to the company, which the company needs as much as the wisdom of its executives and managers.

Unions are terrible. Ford and GM are great examples, like one of the previous posters mentioned. Union leaders are known to be shadey. Teachers unions for example.... I have seen teacher union workers on the news picketing and boycotting. These people are denying children to their gov't education by refusing to teach. Most people, in the real world, would be fired for refusing to work. Unions "protect" these people though, so they don't have to deal w/ what the rest of us do- life.

It's nothing more than a Marxist concept. Socialism/communism does not work (ummm, Pol Pot, Stalin, Lenin?) That was caused the downfall of the Soviet Union.

The reason our country is a super power is because it is capitalist. Individuals here know that with hard work, and ambition, you can succeed. Why should someone who does well be punished? The person who comes up with an idea for any business or co (Disney, etc) and who took the initiative to start it should be rewarded. They're the ones who took the risk. I'm sick of them being made out to be the bad guys (big bad corporations.)

We have the freedom in this country to leave a job if we don't like it. If you aren't able to go to college, it doesn't mean you are destined to a life of poverty. My husband is uneducated (very smart, but not formally educated) and has done very well for us. He found something that he was able to succeed in and make it work. The point is, there are other options.

People these days have some strange sense of entitlement that my grandparent's generation did not. This will be the ultimate demise of this country.

No one is violating anyone's human rights. I don't see these people as being tortured or forced into anything. Comparing this to China is laughable.

Yeah...Heather, without unions your 6 year old would be working at burger king right now.

Outside of a violent criminal behavior, it's hard for me to imagine a more loathsome act. Drug addicts have more humanity than those who would cross a picket line.

Being a drug addict sets a better example for the youth of America than those who cross a picket line? Am I understanding that correctly?

I like how you think that's funny when that's actually the truth

It may be the truth for other countries (and I know it is.) But let's be honest...our society is pretty far from that. With or without unions, 6 year old's wouldn't be working down at the local BK right now in the U.S.

Our society is far from that because unions were there to fight for worker rights in the late 1800s/early 1900s

I like this quote:

Ava Briceno, president of Unite Here Local 681 said "At the other hotels in the same classification, for the same work, the workers get paid $2 to $3 an hour more."

Instead of telling that to the press she should tell that to her union members so that they can go work somewhere else! :thumbsup2

Without Unions democracy would collapse as would child labor laws.

This is just getting to be too dumb to discuss. As always, neither side will agree with the other and we'll just go on and on. We might as well be talking about Iraq, politics, or if chocolate is better than vanilla.

Let's talk about Splash Mountain. I like that ride. It's wet.

I agree. It gets more rediculous every time I stop by. I've decided not to repsond to most of it now. It's for the best.

I like Grizzly River. It's even wetter.

Now.... Back to the DLR Protests......

Here is some more perspective....

Luz Vasquez, who works in the bakery at Disneyland Hotel, said she can't afford to lose many of her benefits. She said it's already hard to care for her three grandchildren and aging mother while earning $14.32 an hour.

$14.32/hour is a lot more than minimum wage. Most of the people this union represents (cooks and housekeeping) are probably unskilled and uneducated so $14 and hour seems to me like a fair wage! But that's just my oipinion! :thumbsup2

What is minimum wage in california these days anyway?

Back when I was in college (not in california)...I worked briefly for minimum wage (a job in the dorms) which was $5.15 at the time. Yikes!

I'm not huge on the wet rides. When we were on our Honeymoon with some friends we went to Universal and went for the Jurassic Park ride. We saw them selling ponchos for 75 cents and thought it was a total rip off. Then we ended up at the front of the ride getting water shot at our head for like 30 seconds. I sure as hell would have paid 75 cents to be dry AFTER that hahaha. Totally ruined the day as it wasn't that warm out.

I only go on the water rides if it's super hot out (and I have a fastpass.) I avoid them any other time of the year.

I love the water rides, in fact, everyone in my family thinks I'm crazy. I love riding Splash over and over at night when its cold and no one is going there.

How on EARTH can you make that assumption??? I just don't get the mass generalizations.

Back to water rides...
Not a big fan of Splash Mountain, but did you know if you sit in the very back row of Pirates - egad you get wet, and I am not talking a little splash!!!

My job requires a Bachelor's, but still my wages and everyone else's is decreasing in respect to how much the company is making. I don't really get paid much more than the hotel workers even at a salaried job, and its still hard making ends meet. There's rent, health, car, car insurance, gas, and price increases all around. I'm sure you can appreciate that with the high cost of living in Hawaii (me too)

I stay in this job, because, I like the networking opportunities, and the benefits promised to me. And its one that would actually take me. I applied to 50 jobs before even getting this one. I even got turned down for a $10 an hour job after I was (thankfully) offered this one.

I can't imagine having to care for my mother and three grandchildren. I think that's one of the things to take into perspective. Yes, she didn't need to have children and by no means is she obligated to take care of her children's children or her mother.

Anyway, splash mountain rocks.
