I seem to remember reading somewhere that cigar smoking is allowed in only certain of the smoking areas? Can anyone shed light on that?

I think they try to restrict cigar smoking to the smoking area just outside the Cove Cafe, near the adult pool.

Does anyone know what the policy is for Pipe smokers? Can they smoke them on their verandah's? TIA

I read about the cigar get together nights on Disney, but I was also told cigars are allowed on privite verandas. Is this not true?

I've never read the smoking policy, but I can attest to the fact that people smoke cigars on their veranda whether they are allowed to or not. Our next door neighbors on our first cruise did. Good question though. Dh and I don't smoke, but once in a great while, dh, in the company of another cigar smoker, will partake of one.

I "think" cigar smoking is allowed in any of the OUTSIDE smoking areas. No cigars inside that I can remember. Verandahs are ok for cigars.

There is no differentiation in the smoking areas. If smoking is allowed, cigars and pipes are allowed.

Smoking/Non-Smoking Policy
For the comfort and enjoyment of our Guests, Disney Magic® and Disney Wonder® have been primarily designated as non-smoking ships. However, we recognize that some of our Guests smoke. Therefore, to provide an onboard atmosphere that also satisfies smokers, we have designated smoking areas in many of our lounges and on all open-air decks and private verandahs. All staterooms are non-smoking. Disney Cruise Line requests that all Guests observe the non-smoking areas and refrain from smoking pipes and/or cigars in any of the public areas. These requests are made to provide a comfortable shipboard living atmosphere for everyone.

Hmmmm, that policy is in direct conflict with the cigar nights they hold over by Cove, which is definitely a public area. Cove also sells a variety of cigars and people often purchase them and smoke them nearby.

I smoke cigars and pipes on the smoking deck outside Meridian. It's one of my favorite places on the boat, even if I'm not smoking. It's usually very quiet, there's a bar inside, it's covered, has a padded couch and there's usually a breeze. Just watch out for falling golf balls if you sit out from under the overhang.

Is that smoking policy the current one? I thought that smoking was not allowed on the verandahs?

Yes, I thought they did too -- at least a couple of years ago! Because I hate the smoking on the verandahs (especially cigar) because it always manages to blow into our room or into our alcove, and I remember on our 2014 cruise we didn't have to worry about it.

FOUND IT (these were the rules when we sailed in 2014):

Q. Are there designated smoking areas on board?

A. In an effort to provide an enjoyable cruise experience for all our Guests, smoking (including the use of electronic cigarettes) is only permitted in the following designated areas of the ships:

Disney Magic and Disney Wonder

  • Deck 4, outdoors, starboard side from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM
  • Deck 9, forward, portside, any time
Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy

  • Deck 4, port side, aft, on the outside Promenade Deck from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM
  • Deck 12, port side, aft, the outdoor area accessible through the Meridian Lounge at any time
  • Deck 13, port side, forward, near Currents Bar, at any time
Note: Guests found smoking in their staterooms or on their verandahs will be charged a $250 stateroom recovery fee. This fee covers deep cleaning that includes air filter replacement, carpet extraction and the cleaning and replacement of drapes, comforters, blankets and pillows, along with verandah cleaning and maintenance.

You're responding to a post from 8 years ago. I think it's been cleared up - there is no smoking on verandahs.

I notice that the Dream and Fantasy smoking sections are all port side. Any idea why that would be? Would someone who is port side be able to smell it on their verandah?

Considering you're below the smoking area, and any verandah aft of the deck 13 forward smoking area is at least 3 decks below, I seriously doubt you'll smell any smoke. I've never smelled smoke sitting in the Cove two decks below. Heck, I've never noticed smoke on deck 12, one level below, nor have I even smelled it while sitting at Currents, right next to it.
