Ciara's story began July 21, when we took Ciara to the doctor because she was extremely fatigued. Her sister had mono only a couple months prior and Ciara was showing the same symtoms. The only difference was she was complaining her chest hurt. Our world was flipped upside down that evening when after running several test and doing an echo, we found out Ciara had 20 ounces of fluid completely surrounding her heart. She was rushed to Children's Hospital where they had her in surgery within the hour. For 2 weeks Ciara remained in the hospital and had many doctors from many different specialities exam and order different tests. Everything was negative, which sounds like a good thing but doctors didn't have any idea why this fluid build up had happened. She had Pericarditis but had no idea hat had caused it. (Idiopathic Pericarditis) They told us she was one in million. They put her on high doses of steriods and the little remaining fluid disappeared. We went home and were told chances are we would never know what caused this and it would most likely not reoccur. (Recurrent Idiopatic Pericarditis is even more rare) Well to make a long story short, Ciara has had more reoccurences then we can count in the last 6 months and still no answer to what the cause is. She has been on as much as 1000mg of steriods through her IV to get rid of the fluid.
Ciara was referred to MAW in October and she knew exactly what her wish was, to go to Disney World. So here we are, 6 weeks away!
I have read so many storys and can't wait to share ours!
