Churro Waffles- Concierge Only?

As someone who only started sailing in 2020 I did not realize HOW much I have been missing out on!
It was truly amazing before. We were blown away. Our kids were 9 and 6 at their first Disney cruise. Now they're 28 and 25.
We booked in 2005 for 2007 because with only 2 ships it would sell out so fast. After the first few days that dates were released, it just wasn't affordable after that. So we booked the first day and we said it would be a once in a lifetime trip. Yeah right. We rebooked onboard and just finished #32.
Back then you'd wait in a long line at the Future Cruise desk. :goodvibes
Also besides the 10% off, DCL would give some OBC for your future cruise. $200 for a 7-night and I think $100 for 3-4 nts. There was no such thing as a 5-nt. Magic did 7 nts. Wonder did 3 & 4 nights. Once the Dream entered service in 2011, they could change things up a little.

I'm sorry to hijack the churro talk. Y'all got me going down memory lane here.

I don't think I've ever eaten the churro waffles. They look too greasy for me. Like a heart attack on a plate.

Thank you for you answer! :flower3: I am curious as to why you cruise DCL when almost all of the things you seem to enjoy can be had on other cruise lines for a much lower price point (and still with wonderful service). I think 4,250 for 2 ppl in a VGT isn't the worst price but it is much more expensive than most cruise lines for a similar itinerary and it seems like the other lines would offer exactly what you seem to enjoy
We will, at some point give another line a try. The Treasure parked next to a new Celebrity ship last month. It had the best looking walking track - that alone made me want to sail it!

We are only sailing the Fantasy in 2026, our favorite ship. We will make Pearl this next year and then maybe try something else.

Love the churro waffles. Very disappointing if they are not available. May pay for them at the sweet shop but would never do concierge for them or cancel a cruise over this.

DCL58 - Give another line a try. You’ll be surprised. We did it and were very concerned that the DCL standards that we came to know wouldn’t be met. We were blown away by HAL. We thought it was just for old people and there were a lot of people in walkers and scooters but there were a lot of fun people in their 50’s and 60’s having a good time. Their service was top notch and their food was better than DCL. They have 3 venues each night that have live music and a nighclub with a live band that had people on the dance floor all night. When is the last time you saw dancing on DCL? Very rare. We love live music and this was a great fit for us. The production shows didn’t match DCL and no other line will. Their live acts were very good though. After that HAL cruise we went back on DCL and it wasn’t the same DCL. Yes it was good but I could see all of the flaws that I was blinded to before. My beloved loungers on deck 4 were far and few between and the ones available were usually broken. They missed giviing us an invitation to the CC club get together. You know how special that is since they only hold them on the 8+ day cruises now and DCL hates running longer cruises. I haven’t been on a Wish class ship because I don’t pay those types of prices for cruises. DD is a CM and we’ll go on a CM discount for the Wish when we can both get away.

I had forgotten about the character breakfasts on the longer cruises! That was such a fun little perk. We last had one on our Alaskan cruise in 2019 - was it something they did away with after cruising returned post-2020?

I can’t believe they are making the churro waffles an additional cost or a concierge only perk. It’s such a little thing that so many people love. If they want to get rid of them, eliminate them entirely - making them an extra fee item for steerage passengers and a perk of concierge just seems like a recipe for disgruntled guests.

My husband and I do have a 5 night Destiny booked for 2026 and am excited to try it out, no matter what the churro situation is at the time! But, honestly, as empty nesters, we have found other cruise lines to be more appealing … DCL was great as a family, but as adults traveling without kids, it just doesn’t hit the same. We prefer tables for two at main dining, walk in showers, more dedicated adults only space on pool decks, adult focused entertainment, better gyms, walking tracks without stairs …

We cruised twice before, once in 2007 and once in 2011. And I too am in somewhat of a state of disbelief at how Disney is acting now and all the things that we missed out on or are just being cut out by blatant greed. But I shouldn't be too surprised as I do know about all the selfish and money hungry antics they have used within the parks since Covid.

They are really going to share this love with DCL now. Sad. I tell you what, I am really going to start researching, studying and journaling these ample discounts with restrictions that are being released every other week now, because I believe they aren't going anywhere for a good while now. They may even get to the point for me to risk not picking our own cabin.

I liked the churro waffles, but wouldn't be upset if dropped from the menu. I would rather have Disney concentrate on serving a hot meal during the main dining.

I really do not understand how the churro waffles in the buffet will impact them getting a hot meal out during either the dinner rotations or those who choose to do sit down dining room for breakfast

I mean, that's exactly what DCL is hoping for. That you will be OK with spending the same amount for less and then will be absolutely OK with spending more money on board to get what was originally included.

It honestly doesn't bother me. I've only had it once in 14 cruises (so I doubt I would have gone looking for them on my upcoming cruise)

Thank you for this! HAL is on my husband’s must try list! Along with Celebrity, VV and eventually river cruising.

Ok. I personally would trade churro waffles, turn down service, free pub snacks, decorations on embarkation day, etc for cheaper fares. I can’t be the only one. None of these small things make or break my cruise.
And thats why they are doing it. Cos more people will want it.

But for people who have money but limited time for holidays we want the premium services and are happy to pay for it. Cos its time we are in short supply of. Not money.

Ps. I would never pay for concierge. I dont understand what im even getting for that upcharge. I guess now batter suggared mickey waffles.
