So now we have reports from both the Maiden and the the 4 night Thanksgiving cruise (back at port tomorrow morning) that the Destiny is no longer serving churro mickey waffles except for those guests who are concierge (offered in the concierge lounge).

What do you think about this? Do you think the Destiny will eventually join the rest of the fleet offering churro mickey waffles on the final full day or do you predict that they will be come a concierge only perk moving forward?

On the maiden, they were promising them on the final sea day. I was in the buffet on the first day and heard upwards of 20 people ask about churro waffles and the cast members kept promising them on that sea day. Cut to the sea day and they didn’t have them. I heard reports of guests berating frontline cast members about it. It’s a chef/management decision and not something to abuse a frontline cast member about, although this guest behavior is in-line with other similar behavior I witnessed on the maiden.

I read online (so I take it with a grain of salt) that they will be served in Concierge and offered for a fee to non concierge...so an upcharge to have them. Again, this has not been confirmed by anything official from Disney. I would be very upset by this....just on principle. First charging for snack foods in the pubs when it used be complimentary and now, if true, upcharging for the churro waffles. Leaves a bitter taste...

No , I think it’s fine to complain to everyone so the message gets heard

If this happens its time to full on protest on board. Chants of bring back churro waffles

It’s not an impossibility on their part; it’s a decision to put yet another thing behind a paywall to squeeze more “yield” out of the customer. I’m going in a few months and will just stand uncomfortably with a plate outside the concierge area.

How could you actually be charged for churro waffles? Would everyone have to sign a payment slip at Marceline Market before having one put on your plate? That just seems unlikely.

And I am in the camp of taking or leaving them. They are good, but not good enough to pay extra for.

Me too. I'll take one when they have them at the buffet, but I never quite understood the hype around them.

That said, this is a ridiculous move by DCL. Did they feel the need to make concierge guests think they are getting some additional value?

I tried them on our Treasure cruise and wasn't impressed.

I know I wouldn't pay anywhere from double to septuple to sail concierge for them but maybe there are some diehard fans that would?

I wouldn't even pay an upcharge for them. Only way I see DCL being able to do that without having to make changes to the buffet would be to offer them in the sit-down breakfast venue.

I suspect they are still ramping up the offerings at Merceline Market. There have been two actual sailings (media/preview sailings with a reduced passenger load don't count) and a new crew so I suspect that they are still working out kinks on serving a full ship. Churro Waffles are more time consuming to prepare so they are possibly sticking to meeting the demand for the basic foods first until the kitchen team gets up to full speed and will then introduce then shortly ---- crew members thinking they were going to be available on sea day on the maiden means they had not been told/trained that they were not going to be available (and Disney would know that the question would come up) leading me to believe it is a minor delay and not an outright removal from Marceline Market.

Someone posted that you can purchase them at Edna's on the Destiny. I have no idea if that's actually true because I have not seen anyone else share that information

Possibly. But then having them on board even for concierge, I think is a mistake vs everybody getting up to speed. Also, DCL managed to launch both the treasure and the Wish with churro waffles available on the maiden sailings. I would argue that if your crew cannot make one of the most popular and sought-after dishes in time for the maiden that you are not ready to sail.

This is bad optics for DCL and being able to have them for concierge, but not other guests is not helping the situation

I'm in the camp of "leave them" - though I think it's a camp of 1. I've never gotten the appeal of churros, but on the Wish I thought I'd give these legendary things a try. I left most of the one I got on my plate uneaten.

Regular Mickey Waffles? YUM! Churro Mickey Waffles? Ick.

More confirmed to reports that they were not available at Marceline market, but were able to be purchased at Edna sweet shop and were available for concierge guests

They aren't my favorite thing either, but that's kind of not the point. Charging guests for something that used to be included is a cutback that I'm not happy DCL starting to make. I'm also concerned about what this signals for future cutbacks

Yeah if the item was something with expensive ingredients or preparation, then I could understand putting them behind an upcharge.

If you want to make friends next cruise, bring some sticks of butter and cinnamon sugar to coat mickey waffles 😁
