We are traveling to WDW from June 12-16 and since we are Catholic I am interested in knowing if there are any Catholic Churches on the grounds or if we have to travel outside of WDW to find one. Would you suggest taking a taxi?

Thanks.

I don't believe church services (except for special occasions like Easter) are conducted on-site anymore (Catholic or Protestant). However, I have a WDW-nut co-worker who's Catholic and her family goes to a nearby recently opened shire for Mass.

My wife and children attended Catholic mass at the oudoor luau venue at the Poly in '98, '00 and '02. Shortly after that, I read that al religious services were discontinued on the property. Does anyone know what the official reason was for the change given by Disney? No big deal, but I am curious.

I think the Catholic Masses were discontinued after the shrine opened. In the case of the Protestant services I recall it was the hassle of finding the manpower by the outside group that ran the ministry week after week. I don't Disney had anything to do with the discontinuation.

While at WDW last month we went to the Mary Queen of the Rosary Shrine in Orlando. It was a very inspirational service. It is about 15-20 from WDW and your hotel should be able to give you directions.
You should be able to find it on the web and there you will be able to find out about times, etc.

It's Mary Queen of the Universe Shrine. Located about 5-10 minutes from the Downtown Disney area (depending on the stoplights). The web site provides a map and directions as well as mass times. I always have a rental car, so I have not investigated cost of taxis myself, but have read reports here on the DIS from others who have used them to get to and from the shrine.

Since the discontinuation of the weekly masses in Luau Cove, the Shrine has been renting the CR ballroom only for Christmas and Easter masses.

i had asked this question and got an uncertian answer. its believed they canceled services on the disney grounfd bc they did not provide services for all walks of faith. there were usually 2 catholic masses and another chirstian service. i think to be fair to all this was discontinued.

If you don't have a car it's easy to grab a taxi outside of any Disney resort to the Shrine.
Coming back there are taxis waiting to take people back to Disney. Sometimes the driver that takes you will ask if you want to be picked up after Mass.

There used to be weekly Catholic and Protestant services. There still are special services at Christmas and Easter, so that sorta contradicts the notion that such services were cancelled out of some idea of "fairness" by WDW.

I think that every time I see the name of that church

I'm not sure if it is a serious question, but in the Roman Catholic faith Mary has the title Queen of the Universe because she is the Mother of God.

It was a serious question. But I know it is not an appropriate one for these forums/boards.

Biblically speaking, such a title or notion is unbiblical and blasphemous.

But again, I do not want to impede on this boards rules.

Then why post this on this board? Take it to the Debate board. I'm not Catholic, and I'm still not thinking that comment is appropriate on this board.

Thank you for the response. :D

I suggest those interested in the history of the Catholic masses at WDW visit the Mary, Queen of the Universe Shrine web site and follow the link to "The Masses at Disney World". This provides a nice historical overview of the scheduling of masses on-site from 1976-2002. The shrine actually opened in 1993, so on-site masses continued for almost a decade after a dedicated facility had been built. The web site certainly indicates that the decision to stop offering weekly mass on-site was motivated by something other than a decision by Disney to stop making a facility available for this purpose. Further, Disney does continue to rent out the CR ballroom for the on-site Christmas and Easter services.
