hopefully someone can help me quickly! i'm in a bit of a predicament!
i'm going to church with my DBF & his fam in about....45 minutes and seeing as how i'm not a regular church-goer i have NO idea what is appropriate attire for church! :confused3

obviously nothing hoochie & such, but is it ok to wear jeans? or leggings?
help!

you can wear pretty much anything to church these days. as long as its not skanky. jeans or leggings should be ok :)

Well, I personally wouldn't consider jeans appropriate- butt maybe I'm just old fashioned.
I don't even go to church anymore...

break out the bootayshawts!

Not to totally be the jerk here, but I feel as though church attire should be something you are comfortable in. Weather it be skanky or ritsy. God does not judge and neither should others. Unfortunately thats not the way organized religion works though(damn you organized religion!!!). So my guess is just wear what you think looks nice.

thanks for the input guys! DBF is gonna be here in a couple of minutes, I decided to go with nice dark jeans with (what i think is) an appropriate top and a cardigan. i feel like it looks decent, soooo hopefully i don't get the stink eye from any old ladies or anything

just think....god doesn't care what you wear hes just glad your there :)

I can see your reasoning but church is something that I at least like to look a little bit nicer than normal for. I have worn casual things on Saturday night services a few years ago but I don't regularly attend church so if I do go I try to look a little bit nice. Kind of like dressing for the occasion such as going to a nice restaurant...you wouldn't wear sweatpants to that.

It has gotten a lot more casual than it used to be when I was little. Ladies would be really fancy. People still dress up for Easter a lot though.

I think what Caitlin said she is wearing sounds nice and appropriate.

Absolutely, and I understand and respect that. For instance, I'm going full tie and suit combo for my christmas eve service tonight. Im not overly happy that I essentially HAVE to wear that, but given the situation, I can accommodate. Although I still stand by what I said, I don't think anyone should be "expected" to wear anything they don't feel fully comfortable in, especially when its involving a religious occasion.

Most people around here would consider a nice pair of jeans appropriate.
I personally would wear a skirt and tights, but I'd wear that just about anywhere :goodvibes:

I go to church every Sunday.
I basically wear things I wear to school. Tshirts, skinny jeans, converse, whatever.
I think that you should be yourself. I don't think you should have to dress up just because you're going to church. I'd much rather just be myself.
But, that's just my opinion.

I wear jeans all the time to church, just ones without holes in them (:
My normal outfit to church is nice dark jeans, a plain t-shirt and a jacket &either flats or boots.

When it comes to the holidays at church, I wear a dress.

Yes, he does care. He doesnt want you showing ur ****s off or having tight leggings at church.

Modesty is the key.

People can wear tights to church. If you have your bum covered what is the problem? It's like wearing a dress with pantyhose.

It would be inappropriate to have cleavage showing at church but tights are not unmodest.

i feel like tights are more modest than bare skin.

but i know there are several churches would have people passing out in the aisle for a woman showing her wrists and ankles. :confused3

it all depends on the denomination you're visiting.

Caitlin, I think what you're wearing sounds about right. Honestly, mostly it's just the older ladies who really go all out for church. Most young people just go with casual.

Have fun! :)

Wanda I SERIOUSLY disagree. Although I think showing up completely naked is a bit extreme, god cares and loves you no matter what you happen to wear to church. The problem is that the people at church care FAR too much. And that is no what church and spirituality is about. Hence my hate for organized religion. If I wanted too I would show up in nothing but my boxers and wouldnt care one bit what people think. Church is about going and going and getting closer to god and focusing on reaching a higher understanding with him, not about focusing on how nicely dressed you are.

i kind of disagree with you here. would you show up to your friends house in nothing but your boxers? or have dinner with your girlfriends parents in your boxers? my guess is no, because you respect them enough to put in some effort. i don't see why a place of worship is different. i don't think its necessary to get completely dolled up, but you should at least respect the church enough not to go looking like a slob. :confused3

im not arguing with your point about god not loving you less for showing up naked, im sure he'd be pretty chill with it, i just think places of worship should be respected.

btw caitlin, i think your outfit sounded really cute! i've only been to church like, once, but i think what you wore sounds appropriate. :cutie:

Obviously I would not do that sort of thing for a friend or girlfriend's parent because I respect them and they have certain expectations of me. For me God has NO expectations. Well he has some based on personality and such, but not for what I wear. But then again I rarely go to church. Obviously I do dress up for church, but it still does not mean I care for or agree with it.

And like Ive been saying, I think organized religion is a crock and I pretty much go to please my family. I just dont feel any closer to god when I go there. I am VERY close to god/jesus/whatever you want to call him, and I feel he has blessed me in so many ways, I thank him daily, I love him always and I care for him on an incredible level. But to me church does nothing to make me grow closer to him, and its filled with fake people, or at least the churches I have been too.

Lyrics to a song that I feel has baring on what I feel.

Instead of a Show-Jon Foreman of Switchfoot

I hate all your show and pretense
The hypocrisy of your praise
The hypocrisy of your festivals
I hate all your show
Away with your noisy worship
Away with your noisy hymns
I stomp on my ears when you're singing 'em
I hate all your show

Instead let there be a flood of justice
An endless procession of righteous living, living
Instead let there be a flood of justice
Instead of a show

Your eyes are closed when you're praying
You sing right along with the band
You shine up your shoes for services
There's blood on your hands
You turned your back on the homeless
And the ones that don't fit in your plan
Quit playing religion games
There's blood on your hands

Instead let there be a flood of justice
An endless procession of righteous living, living
Instead let there be a flood of justice
Instead of a show
I hate all your show

Let's argue this out
If your sins are blood red
Let's argue this out
You'll be one of the clouds
Let's argue this out
Quit fooling around
Give love to the ones who can't love at all
Give hope to the ones who got no hope at all
Stand up for the ones who can't stand at all, all
I hate all your show
I hate all your show
I hate all your show
I hate all your show

Instead let there be a flood of justice
An endless procession of righteous living, living
Instead let there be a flood of justice
Instead of a show
I hate all your show

Oh, I didn't mean dressed nicely as in fashion and whatnot, I meant like, not dressing in a way that distracts you from what is important. I don't know if you get what I mean, Matt, hehe.
