I've always thought of my younger DD, now 3.5, as solid, hefty, chunky, etc. At a recent pediatrician's visit, they measured (38 in) and weighed her (32 pounds) and referred to her as "long and lean" as she was at the 50th percentile for height and 25th percentile for weight.

I realized that my mistake has been to compare her to her older sister who trails along at the 3rd to 5th percentile for weight. 25th percentile for weight LOOKS chunky if you are comparing it to the 5th percentile.

I just hope that you've only "thought" that and don't call her that to her face...

sorry to sound so harsh but it starts so young having a bad self image based on what your parents think you should be...

I'm glad she is healther that you thought she was.

Oh, gosh! Thank you for posting. I kept my thoughts to myself. The only weight related comments made to DD are along the lines of "No, you are too big/heavy" when she wants to be carried all the time.

A similar thing happened to us.

My grand daughters other gramma always makes comments and worried often about how "fat" grand daughter is.
When I took my little sweetie to the pediatrician, he commented about how well proportioned she was and how she was "just right".....

He also reinforced the fact that until children are in their late teens, their bodies frequently change from thicker to thin, and back and forth. He said they often thicken before they grow taller.

Thats funny. My 3 1/2 yo is 37 inches and about 33 lbs. We consider him a peanut. His older brother was(and still is) in the 75% for both.
