So we are working on making our first trip to the Fort in October (hopefully!:wizard:)

And in looking ahead I was thinking how great it would be to get away from our dreary NJ weather and go camping the week after Christmas. Of course we can't do that locally - October camping around here has been frigid these past few years. I know that many of the FW board regulars are southerners so I was wondering - how far south would one have to go to warm up the week after Christmas? I know that weather varies and that it could be chilly even in Orlando, but in general - where could you go to walk on the beach, tent camp comfortably, etc. I was thinking maybe St Augustine and/or Cape Canaveral ... but are there places north of that that would work?

And I'd love any campground suggestions ... we tent camp, so that is a consideration. Thanks :)

The nearby FDR state park is very nice with ponds and lots of shade. I think all sites are water and ele only ... You have to move to the dump station for sewer emptying. This wasn't a problem for us since we were touring in the mho, so we were breaking down every morning anyhow. They also have some nice rustic stone cabins on top of the
Mountain with spectacular views. IIRC there is no ac in the cabins and the only heat is the fireplace. Both the cabins and campground were pleasant experiences.
