We currently have a reservation for OKW from Christmas eve through the following week, and we're waitlisted for the Beach Club. To be honest, we're now struggling with the decision of keeping that waitlist, and hoping it comes through OR dropping it and simply stay at OKW. Here's some of the thinking:

Beach Club is a beautiful place, and we can walk to Epcot. It's all one building, so we won't have to walk 1/2-mile or catch a bus to go to the hospitality house like at OKW. But OKW has a slightly larger room, and has a "vacation home" feel to it rather than a hotel feel. Lots more thoughts, but . . . what do you think. Should we keep OKW, or hope for Beach Club??

I think this can legitimately be argued either way. For me, I would keep OKW for the extra space, as you said, and for being able to remove myself from the chaos that will accompany that particular week. I also happen to like that guests at OKW frequently decorate their balconies at Christmas. I know that's silly, but it gives the resort a sense of community.

...and I'd do the exact opposite!!!

Given the crowds that are around New Years I would prefer to be able to walk to/from Epcot and DHS. Having done that week at AKL we found that that there were often long waits for transport or to move cars.

Decisions decisions. I'm going through one myself on where to stay.
We go at Christmas every year. Staying at BC would be soo convenient. It would save a lot of time driving or taking to the bus to Epcot/HS.
It sounds like you will be happy either way it goes though :goodvibes

Sounds like you will be there NYE. For that reason alone I would hope for BCV. You can see NYE fireworks at MK on Dec. 30, when it will be less crowded and then do NYE at Epcot or DHS and walk home. Driving or busing back to OKW on NYE can be pretty awful.
In any case I am sure you will have a great trip.

I would not get rid of the OKW until you get confirmation that you have the beach club. I agree that Beach Club is the best resort but the likelihood of getting Beach Club this late for that week is small.

Enjoy your trip it is great there for christmas.

I disagree here as well. We find taking the bus from OKW to any park except AK to be much easier than walking from BWV or BCV. Of course, Epcot is an exception, but that assumes you aren't going in the morning to do Future World.
I like the proximity of BCV to Epcot, but after staying in that area a couple of times, it was just too much walking for me, and I was very happy to go back to the convenience of OKW buses.

Did you get onto the BVC waitlist at 7 months out? Not likely that it will come through for Christmas at this late date..

I say let fate decide. :)

Keep the waitlist until the 7 day mark and if BCV doesn't come through, then that's the answer. You'll be at Disney no matter what and you can have a great time at either resort.

FWIW, if your reservation includes NYE, the chances of your waitlist working are very, very small. If it works, then truly fate will have sprinkled pixie dust all over your trip. :)
