Me (31) and Denise (DW – 25)

I was up at 3.30am to take Mum and Step-Dad to the airport so ended up getting just three and a half hours sleep – never mind, that’s more than some days! Denise went to work for the day and I worked the morning. By 3pm I had everything ready so I drove into town and sat in the car for 30 minutes waiting for the car parks let us in, very slowly – damn last minute shoppers!

Denise actually finished at 3.30pm instead of 4.40pm so we set off 1 hour early on our drive from Exeter to Ashford – 255 miles according to the RAC Route Planner. My first moment of idiocy was leaving the directions in the boot! Never mind – I can get them when stop at a service station, or so I thought… Stopped at Reading for a quick loo break, got back in the car and drove off with the directions STILL in the boot! M5, M4, M20, A28 – how hard can it be?

After using a bit of common sense (pity that wasn’t around when I left the directions in the boot) and luck we found the hotel - we’d actually gone the exact right way – 277 miles actually Mr RAC! The hotel was quite nice – had a rustic feel and the bedrooms were nice, despite the mega soft mattress which needed a ladder to climb back out of!

We went down to the bar and had to move from our first seats because although I was enjoying the round-up of the 2005 Ashes series on the TV we were being smoked out – no thanks. We moved and sat near a family of 3 who sounded Welsh, I thought, and could have been Dee and family but I could have sworn she said there 4 of them travelling so I didn’t say anything, tough I did mention Disney loudly a few times in case she heard me! A few minutes later I hear the boy near us say ‘dlpSteve’ and realise it must be them after all and it was! So, I met Dee, Dave and Josh – Ben was in the room. We joined them and we all chatted and had a nice evening – was great meeting Dee after chatting to her for so long on here and her, Dave and Josh were great company. Josh has more energy thank anyone I’ve ever met, and prefers drinks on the floor than in glasses! We swapped numbers and agreed to meet up in DLRP – then we went to our rooms, bedtime!

Next: Day 2 - Christmas Eve!

Excellent photos Steve. The Studios don't look busy at all and I love the pictures of the black Disney ornaments.

Nice to hear that you got on so well with Dee and her family but I'm not surprised as she comes across as really lovely on here.

Look forward to reading more.

Loved your photos Steve. Some very detailed ones in the Christmas Parade - things I hadn't noticed before. Also loved the one of you and Denise with the White Queens' elf and the ones of you with Dee and family - brilliant!! Bring on day 2!!!! :teeth:

I'm away to look at the photos - how lovely you all meeting up like that! Can't wait to hear the rest...........

Forgive me for hopping in here but the butterflies etc are in the Rainforest Cafe.

Thanks Di,

I'd kinda made an assumption thats where it had to be after reading the next installment of the trip report - but I just love the look of that place. I remember Bonnie having lovely photos of outside it [I think] and others too. I have never been and really want to try it our next trip. I hope everyone's photos do it justice as it looks wonderful! Is it true you can't prebook, only on the day? I think thats why we have never been before! Would you all recommend it?

Rhiannon and I have a few places we absolutely have to eat in every time we go and the Rainforest Cafe is one of them. We love the atmosphere and the surroundings - and the food!!!

I too love the Rainforest Cafe. I love the atmosphere of the restuarant.

Steve nice pre start to the trip and good news that you met up with dee and Co.

Photos as ever are excellent. Some good candidates for picture quiz ;)

Steve, absolutely fantastic photos....if mine turn out half as good I will be delighted. I did look out for you and Denise, especially on Pirates of the Caribbean! pirate: Hope you got lots of rides on it, we did it three times in a row all by ourselves on Christmas Eve and the others threatened to throw me in if I suggested doing it any more! :rotfl:

We still haven't got around to eating at the DLRP one but we have eaten at the one in Animal Kingdom, WDW and the one in London and they were both great. I believe I am correct in saying that the menu is different in each one?

Elaine - we did POTC just once each day, the least times we've ever done it!

Steve, great start !!!
It's always so nice to meet some Dis-friends !!! :grouphug:

LOOOOOOOVED your photos !!!!!
Waiting for second installment !!! :Pinkbounc :bounce:

He has an official photo spot at the Studios Animation Courtyard.

Beware, he is VERY naughty, he tries to pocket all the children's pens and autograph books! :rotfl2:

There is a Chicken Little Set next to Animagique - he appears there from time to time. There may be set times but we were just lucky and saw him arrive when we were leaving Animagique.

Great start!

You did well to get your Hotel without directions. My DH is really good at finding his way in the car - and I am hopeless!

Your Photos are really nice, and it must have been a bonus to meet up with Dee and Co. The picture of you all together is lovely.

Elaine, I've only been to DLP and London RFCs and the menus were largely the same but certainly had some differences. At RFC in DLP I usually have the veal, and this wasn't available in London (not surprisingly as veal is a lot more commonplace in France than UK generally). Cocktail menu FAR superior in DLP in my opinion!! :drinking1
