We are planning a trip to WDW for Christmas from 12/18-12/26.
We recently returned from AKL which we feel has a great concierge level (nice food offerings and excellent staff). We are booked at the Wilderness Lodge in the Honeymoon Room for the Food and Wine Festival for 8 nights in October (we have stayed here before and although the food offerings were not as elaborate as AKL or other resorts we have stayed at, we are not as concerned since we are here for the Food and Wine Festival).
I have tentatively booked an 8 night stay at the Grand Floridian in the Honeymoon "Suite" (the only main building concierge room still available for our dates.) We have stayed in this type of room at the GF during 2 prior stays and had mixed feelings. During our wedding stay in 1998 we felt that the concierge was geat - polite/helpful staff, nice breakfast offerings, snacks throughout the day, small "tea" sandwiches around lunch time, wine and appetizers in the evening and dessert and cordials at night. During our most recent stay we felt that the level of concierge service had declined. The staff did not seem as helpful and the food offerings were significantly less (please keep in mind that I have stayed concierge many times so I do not expect full meals but for over $650/night I was hoping for what we had received during our initial stay). However, during our most recent stay, the food offerings consisted of the expected continental breakfast, chips and salsa thoughout the afternoon, cheese/crackers and one appetizer with wine in the evenings and then dessert that was not readily replenished (for example one 5 year old girl was in tears because there were no chocolate covered strwberries left 15 minutes into the dessert offerings and the concierge replied "Well, I guess that is all until tomorrow").
I do admit that the ambiance with the band and view of the lobby with the Christmas Tree and other decorations from the concierge lounge was nice and is not easliy duplicated at other resorts.
I am wondering if anyone who has recently stayed can advise me as to thier experiences so we can decide whether to stay at GF or try to find alternate accomodations.
Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
