When we were kids we were lucky enough to have parents who took us to get a "real" Christmas tree every year. Once they had the house remodeled we were ably to go from the standard 7'-8' tree to a 14' monster.
We found a, somewhat, local tree farm who could supply us with our tree. After the first year of searching his grounds for the perfect tree...the perfect tree for us was one that had no large holes on one side because the tree would be crushed into the corner of a room next to a staircase...he decided it would be best if we gave him a heads up about a week before so he could have one or two picked out ahead of time. What he didn't tell us was that he was going to make it an event. When we arrived the next year, after our warning call, we saw 30 people waiting to watch us get our tree. Hey, the more the merrier. We took a look at a couple of trees until we found ours and after deciding where we should make the cut we were on our way...sort of.
We were, in effect, topping this tree. It was 30 feet tall but we only needed 14 feet of it so we figured that we'd cut it half way down. Did you know when your looking up a tree from almost directly under a tree you can't really tell the difference between 30' and 40'?
So our helpful farmer is dragging the tree out with his tractor because you can't pull treezilla out by hand. Got the tractor stuck, twice. Took 1 1/2 hours to pull it 200 feet. Good thing we came prepared to get it home. We strapped it to my parents 1979 Cadilac Fleetwood. Picture this. A 22' car with a 20' tree on top of it. Everyone had to get in first. We had to open the windows so we could wrap the 100' of rope around the tree, through the windows and bumpers. The person, I think it was my brother, who wrapped the tree and tied the final knot had to climb in the window. No one saw us on the way home because we were so well camouflaged.
"Did you see that?"
"What?"
"That tree doing 60?"
"Must be escaping from the tree farm."
We've never done that with my kids because we're much smarter now and I don't want to ruin the paint on MY car. We also have had an "unreal" tree for the past 16 yrs. We're going to be at WDW for almost 2 weeks in December and I hadn't really thought of decorating a tree while we were there until I read some of the questions reguarding trees and decorating at WDW. It might be nice to buy some Disney decorations for a WDW tree. I know we can pick up decorations just about everywhere in WDW I was wondering if we can get a Christmas tree somewhere on grounds...NO NOT A 14 FOOT TREE!! Picture that going down Main Street and on the Monorail or bus or boat! It would be nice to pick one up at MVMCP while we are there on the 9th and decorate it the next day. Make it a WDW tree hunt.
Does anyone remember seeing trees at any of the store in WDW or DTD? If they are too pricey I could borrow the in-laws car and get one from one of the stores off grounds but that would take all the fun out of it.
Thanks,
