Warm and uncrowded.
Hello faithful readers. Another day down. One full day left. Im betting I am not the only one who actually starts to feel down after the halfway point of a trip to Disney, knowing that every day is one day closer to having to leave, and its more than halfway there. I started to feel that yesterday, and much more today. I never get homesick here.
This morning was fairly lazy, since I spent the first hour or so in bed writing yesterdays report. Finally, after the fourth loop of Krissa bubbling on my television I was done and got up to shower and start the day. Heading out onto the balcony, the weather today was MUCH nicer, jeans and t-shirt weather. As festive as the chilly weather had been, I was ready for a warm day. Thats the reason the park was built here and not in Massachusetts, or so Ive been told. That and taxes.
Finally showered and ready to roll, I headed back over to Epcot, wanting to try lunch in the Rose & Crown, one of the few remaining restaurants I had not yet tried in the World Showcase. It was still a bit early for lunch so since I was hangover-less this morning I headed over to Mission: Space. Such a well done attraction, really is quite the experience. Has anyone ever used or been in a capsule with someone who used one of the space sickness bags? I was thinking about that while waiting for take-off. That would be rather unpleasant. Especially considering the spin factor. And with my stomach sufficiently spun and that thought in my head, lunch would have to wait a little while longer.
Next stop was Spaceship Earth. This time the line was only at the loading area. A nice, slow, non-spinning ride through the history of communication later and my stomach was feeling much more settled. Now I was ready for lunch.
Distracted as I headed through Innovations Plaza, I stopped to watch the Kristos perform. These are three people who went to the head of their Yoga class and reached Nirvana. With alien looking body suits and hoods the three (2 men and a woman, I think it was Elastigirl,) performed feats of stretching and balancing that were not quite human, hence the alien theme. It was wicked wee-yahd. (That goes out to my Massachusetts peeps. Can I get a what what?) But cool nevertheless.
Passed by the Epcot Vybe on their way to perform as I headed over to England. (If anyone hasnt seen American/Epcot Vybe, I strongly encourage you to do so, they sing a capella renditions of gospel, jazz and other American music, though holiday tunes at this time of year. Very talented bunch of young people.)
The Rose & Crown was nice, though I had two complaints. Apparently being alone meant giving me the table that had no room on either side. Really. The people at the other tables could have simply turned around and been sitting and mine. So I curled myself around to the back of the table and found my space. The second complaint was that the service was somewhat slow. Not outrageously slow by any means, certainly within reason, just not what I normally expect from Disney service. Lunch consisted of traditional English fare: a pint of Boddingtons, lamb and barley soup and bangers and mash. (Insert your own Austin Powers quote here, where we were all sixes and sevens.) My waitress was nice however, and though she gave me the check for the couple two tables down (which was much smaller, I should have kept it,) I pointed it out and it was rectified. My waistline assaulted, I headed out.
Stopped to watch The British Invasion, a very good Beatles cover band. Amusing that theyre all actually American. Actually, so is Off Kilter. Something to do with working visas being different for these types of performers. Thats what I read anyway. And as my tomes of truth reveal you can believe everything you read, right? Dont snicker that way, Diet Coke will come out of your nose, and thats just painful.
The invasion completed (and not one shot fired) I headed around the World Showcase to see which international holiday storytellers I could catch. Oh, hey, theres a character attendant in France, Belle must be there! Oh, no its just the Beast. Thats no good. Hes too tall for me. Ive also got a real problem dating anyone who could eat me. (Anyones mind travel into the gutter on that comment? Stop it, this is Disney, for goodness sake. Though, it was in France )
I ended up catching the Papa Christmas in Canada, Pere Noel in France, and the storyteller in Japan. She was a hoot, talking about Japanese New Year, though I dont remember any of the names of anything. Oh, and I also caught Father Christmas in England. Oh, heres a completely inappropriate segue: Did anyone notice that Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone is on ABC Familys 25 days of Christmas? Does anyone consider this a Christmas movie? I know theres that 2 minute scene of them on Christmas morning, but I mean REALLY. There are tons of other movies they could have been showing. Okay, tangent over.
It was cooling down a bit since a cloud cover had formed so I headed back to the room to get a sweatshirt. I ended up checking my e-mail as well and then the couch turned comfier somehow. So I closed my eyes for half an hour. (THERES the trick to napping, do it sitting up. Much harder to make them last too long that way.) By that point it was 5 oclock, so I decided to head down to the hot tub since it was actually warm enough outside to go into it without losing any appendages on exiting it.
I spent a nice time with a couple families who were very entertaining, and once I had sufficiently relaxed and rejuvenated and boiled myself temporarily sterile I headed back up to shower and change.
Next on the agenda was a trip to Downtown Disney. There were a few things I had held off on picking up, since the AP has a 10% discount at the World Of Disney. Apparently I should have just spent the extra $7 and bought the things as I saw them in the parks. YIKES was it crowded. I had a salad and sandwich at the Earl of Sandwich (quite tasty.) After that was when I ventured into the store. I should tell you, that shopping makes me anxious, and not in a good way. Crowds dont bother me in the parks, at the theater, or anyplace else, for that matter, but when I get into a crowded store, my body tenses up something fierce and I really fight with anxiety. I cant wait to get it over with and out of there. After half an hour I had had it and gave up trying to find anything else and high tailed it out. I half considered staying a little longer but I was way to tense so I just got in the car and headed out. (But not before almost getting hit by a ninja style attack on my parking spot by someone behind me. Man, I hate shopping. God bless the internet.)
I swung over to the back of Westside trying to find the entrance to Saratoga Springs, since I was interested in seeing how it was. Grabbed a spot on the edge of the golf course and parking lot and hiked over. Quite a lovely new resort DVC has there. Though it was dead. I saw two families. And that was it. Tumbleweeds were leaving out of lonliness. Im sure that people just werent around and were all out playing in the parks and such, but it felt so empty there. Maybe everyone gave up their points to buy in and no-one is staying there until next May when they all get their points.
Back to the Beach Club, I stopped quick to drop some things off, and then headed over to Jellyrolls. (Be honest. You NEVER saw that coming. Did ya? I didnt think so.) An interesting night, there was a bridal party there, still in their wedding attire. (How come its a bridal party? Why not a groomal party? A groomy party? Nevermind.) They were pretty boring, actually, except for the groom trying to do the PeeWee Herman dance (Tequila) and one member who kept trying to get on stage with the waitstaff during the Unicorn song. (He was repeatedly removed by Tiny, the Hawaiin bouncer. I have no idea if that was his name, but it seemed appropriate, since he was anything but. Later in the night there was also the Jay character from the Kevin Smith movies (Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Clerks, Dogma, etc.) He had a beard and dark hair, but otherwise, he was Jay. Fun fun fun!
Back home now though, after filling out the paperwork that officially made me an investor in Jellyrolls. Off to bed for an early wake up call to meet my friends Scott and Sheila at 7:30 to take them to breakfast, then off to MGM for tomorrow. If I dont get tomorrows report out at night I will do it on the plane. Thanks for tuning in! Off to bed with who else? Thats right. Krisssa. Well, not WITH her, with her on my TV. Dirty minds.
Day seven minus day one equals day SIX!
