Christmas Shopping '09

DD has said that she wants arts & crafts supplies, so I was thinking of doing like a basket or a resealable container to put the stuff in. She's a crayola nut so does anyone know where I can get good sized boxes of like crayons, markers, and color pencils for decent prices? I was in Wal Mart the other day and saw a box of 50 color pencils for $9 and some change. I didn't know if this was a good price but seemed expensive to me.
TRU recently has be having the Crayola sets BOGO Free. For my DD's birthday we got HUGE 3D chalk set BOGO and saved $20! I looked around at other places and it was sold as cheap as we got it. Also, if you have an AC Moore or Michael's around you, they have a great Crayola selection and you can use the 40% or 50% coupons!

Def wait until the school supplies go on clearance and stock up. We did that last year when DD8 was really into crafts and it was a big hit! You will be suprised at what goes on clearance after school is in session. We got big boxes of crayons and pencils super cheap. Even the clay and stuff! We stuck all the boxes of crayons and pencils and markers into a huge decorative hat box that she could put on her desk and it looks extra cute even now! Also, this year we got her the 3-d chalk, on clearance at michaels craft store and a couple craft sets too.

Thanks for the info ladies! I did pick up a set a markers and a container of glue that was on sale this past weekend, which also was out tax-free weekend:cool1: What's TRU? Do they have a website? We don't have one around here but we do have a Micheal's, so I will definitely check them out.

I can't comment on if that sale will come again but I can guarantee that the handsoaps will be on sale again. My suggestion would be to wait because at christmas time if you ask they will also give you a clear cellophane bag and some ribbon. Free packaging:) I had a coworker a couple of years ago that put the soap in the bag with a few candies in the bottom and then tied the ribbon around the pump. They turned out really nice. In fact if you wanted to be really budget you could buy clearance halloween candy (non halloween pattern/shapes etc) and freeze that to use at christmas. They would be perfect for teachers, neighboors, coworkers etc. Just a thought!

The BBW soaps go as low as 5 for $10, I would wait. There are usually $10 off $30 coupons around the holidays too. You can do much better if you hold out a little longer.

Happy Friday everyone!! I know that most of you are enjoying the next 2 weekends with your kiddos go back to school.:teacher: How is the school shopping going? We have Tax-Free here next weekend,so our stores will be absolute mad houses!! Do ya'll have that? Our local mall is so crazy!! We went the first year they did it...totally unaware....MISTAKE. Really trying to get into that christmas shopping spirit. Cat has her Nutcracker auditions Saturday, hopefully that will help.

Wow! You're just starting back to school stuff in your state?! My DD has been at school for a week now! Not that she really wanted to go back this year. This is the first year she hasn't been all pumped to go- she was excited, yes, but she was nervous for the first time! :confused3 It was kinda funny. She was at the bus stop and looked at me and said "I feel like puking when I burp." I told her it was because she was nervous and that she would be fine when she got to school and she told me that "no, I felt like this all morning." She had no clue what being nervous felt like until this point and I still don't think she quite understood! :lmao: Poor kid!
Anyway- went shopping today and got a Gazzilion Bubble, bubble rocket thing for $4!! At Target of course! Its warm enough her in Ga at christmas to warrant outdoor presents like that. No white Christmas here! :guilty:It would be nice- I haven't had a white Christmas since I was a kid in Ohio!

Hello there! I love Christmas threads. I am already imagining how long this thread will be by Thanksgiving. LOL! I have one DD (4) but turns 5 the beggining of December. I feel like she gets a bit cheated. I have several things already picked up for Christmas. My BILs are getting Brew Your Own Beer Kits that I snagged at 90% off at CVS. I picked up toys at Target's Toy Clearance a few weeks ago. There really was not a whole lot for Girls but DD is in love with Hanny Manny so she is getting a few of those play sets. I was also able to snag 4 Vpocket games for $5 each. She has asked for 2 things a ipod (Which I feel she is way to young for and will not be getting. I worry about her little ears.) She also wants a Wii. This maybe a possibility which I am open too but I am not sure if it will really get used. She knows how to operate them because when we are at my SIL house she turns it on and goes to it. What do you all think? I have never been much into video games. Are they worth it?

Right now I am just trying to get us ready for our first trip to Disney in a couple of weeks:yay::yay::yay: and then I can concentrate on Birthdays and Christmas.

The Wii is pretty well worth it. My DD8 plays it all the time and they have several "girly" type games she loves. It gets her booty off the floor and dancing around with some of the games. I also have a niece who is younger and she also plays the wii. It seems to be a hit in our house! Actually this year I think Santa is bringing the Wii fit board as our family gift! :cool1: I have been wanting this and so has DD! Great, healthier video games! Thanks Santa! :santa:

I agree! We love the Wii in our house and I think every house should have one! My dad and stepmom want one and they are in their 50's! It is nice that it gets us all off the couch and moving. My DD3 has a couple games too and she likes to play. Oh and she is a pretty good Wii bowler!
I think it will be hard to find again when it gets closer to Christmas.

WOO HOO. I made a dent in my shopping today. This is late for me, but I haven't had any KIDLESS time in a while and so while DD is off with the grandparents for a few days and since I was going to Target anyway........

Santa is just about DONE (and I'm really trying to cut down this year, but with an only child, it's too easy for me to go a little crazy).

So far, I've picked up a TV which was on great sale (although I'm still not sure she is getting it. I have been against the TV in the room and am still having some inner struggles, so we'll see which way I fall :).

But, also picked up:

Hannah Montana movie & soundtrack
Princess Protection Program movie
Princess Disney Mania CD
Fancy Nancy tutu, 2 books and a puzzle
Sponge Bob Sorry (game)
Littlest Pet Shop puzzle

IF I decide to keep the TV, I will pick up a small, cheap DVD player because the TV will NOT be hooked up to cable and will be for movies only (DD loves her movies and plays along and acts along with them).

Mommy & Daddy always give PJ's on Cmas Eve and we are taking her to see the Nutcracker ballet so that's Cmas from us. Hopefully she does not throw me a curve ball and come up with some grand gift to ask Santa for. She has always just wanted anything and everything she sees and is very easy to please and grateful for everything :)

AAwww!! How sweet! I am proud of you!!!! I struggled with the tv thing too! I thought about the little tv/dvd combo for each room...but that is for 3 kids and I don't want that much tv! Ha! We have one in the family room, my room, and the bonus room upstairs...so that's plenty for us. Sounds like you got some really cute stuff.....I just love Fancy Nancy. Does she like puzzles? We have a couple and they are so cute!!!

I did pick up a fancy nancy puzzle...it's glitters. She'll love that!

I'm still back & forth with the TV. Right now she likes to watch movies in my bedroom because it's upstairs and she can drag her toys over instead of down (easier for her too clean up too...pretty smart). So, my bedroom ends up being her playroom. Hence my putting a DVD only TV in her own room so she can play in there (used to have a play room, but moved recently and so her bedroom in now big enough to be both bed and play room).

Whatever you decide she'll be happy!! And Oh My Word!! You are about to go on your vacation!!!! I just noticed that! Yay for you!!!! Take lots of pictures for us!!!!!! Hope you have a fabulous trip and get lots of good cloudy days!!!!!

Oh my word!! We have slipped to page 3!!! I meant to be up here early this morning for our weelky countdown to Christmas, but I had a sick kid last night. Why, oh why, does this junk hit them when you are in bed? YIKES!!! So, we have had jello today!! She is about to get a baked potato, so we are excited!!!!! So....we are one week closer!!! A little good news for our area....we are getting our first cool front!!!!! I know you northern people get lots of them and probably aren't ready for them yet...but we have had days with intense humidity and close to 100 since May!!!! Of course, we have been over 100 since June, so any cooling will be a blessing!!! Our night of the cool front is suppose to be .....69 degrees!!! Woo Hoo:worship: Thank you Lord!!! I am sooooo ready!!!
On another note....

Hey Shawna - I hope your DD is feeling better!
We had a cool front too the last three days - rain (much needed) and highs in the 60s. It feels like late September!
My DH had a little job change this week. He used to sell merchandise at the arena where the MN Wild play, both at hockey games and concerts. Now he's not going to work at the hockey games, only concerts. SO, less $$. Then he got a job (on Wednesday) working at the dome for Vikings games. Thank you Brett Farve for coming to MN!!! So tonight is the first pre-season game. Let's hope lots of fans want Favre jerseys!!! He makes commission on sales. So it's a bit of a relief that he can still make some extra money. (this is his 2nd job, by day he's a mailman!) It helps pay for Disney! :)
Okay, that was totally off topic, but I wanted to share.
Now, who knows what I can get my kids who have TOO much stuff!!??
All I can come up with is a CD player for DD8 (hers broke) and maybe some DS or Wii games for either or both. Maybe American Girl stuff (they each have two dolls - that's enough!)

Hey Sheree!
How cool that Dave's a mailman!!!! Our local postmaster told us to bring the kids for a hs tour!!! I can't wait!!! I too am in a pickle for Gracie's Christmas...she wanted a new AG doll, then she didn't, last week, it was bitty Baby #2 so they could be twins...and not have the twins they sale. BUT, since then she has changed her mind again!! She definitely wants clothes for the 2 she has, and maybe one of the little strollers...we'll see! but, since she is only 6-most of the technical stuff is out!! ha!! She did inherit her older brother's Nintendo DS....he got a PSP(with his own$$), so he gave her his DS. I will be getting more games for her for sure!!! I don't know what to get him either..his bday is the 4th of Dec...so I am thinking $$$$$!!!!
I am trying to talk them into selling the ps2...I really would like to get them a wii for christmas!!!! I want the TSMM game!!!! I really am at a stand still right now for what to get them...kid #2 is the only one who knows what he wants!!!! LEGOS!!!
Gracie is better today!! No diarrhea or throw-up all day!! praise the Lord!!!! I am so glad the rest of us didn't get it!!! She slept til 11:00 today!!!! But, she didn't get to sleep good and hard until about 3 or 4 this morning!!!! So, I know she was just exhausted! Our Wal-Mart is rearranging the toy section!! So, we know that more toys cometh!!!!!
